Biometrics on 11-26-07, how long till they decide?

Hello all!

My biometrics appt was on 11-26-07.Any idea how long the wait will be before I hear anything from Vermont service center?

Anybody in the same boat?

No predicting how long it can be weeks, months, or even up to a Year or more.

You will receive a notice of receipt for the form stating that "Your alien card is extended one year - employment and travel authorized". Keep the receipt with your green card. If by some chance you are not approved within a year you will want to make an InfoPass appointment to go to your Local Office to request an I-551 stamp in your passport. This does happen as it sometimes it takes over a year to be approved. After your NOA extension expires, this is your only evidence of legal status which you are required to have, by law. This happens occasionally, that a case takes over a year, but it's rare. Local Offices will not give an I-551 stamp is you have another type of evidence of status (ie, expired Green Card + extension letter).

Take a look at the immigration timeline link a the top of the page, there are stats for lifting conditions. The USCIS site says six months but many are getting approved in two or three months.

It really depends on how quickly your service center is processing. Perhaps a search for other I-751 filers under VSC will give you a better answer.

Looking at the timelines started by eau_xplain, VSC normally takes over four months. The USCIS website says that as of Dec 14, VSC is processing I-751's received March 1, 2007. This is a ten-month lag.

Going by the timeline thread here in this forum, VSC has been pretty much clock-like, taking about 6 months. So if I were you, I would be expecting approval in June. (Note, however, that I-751 petitions sent to TSC are now being transferred to VSC -- they had been being transferred to CSC -- so I have no idea what if any impact that will have on processing of normal VSC petitions.)

Congratulations! How long did it take from biometrics till approval? Does it mean that VSC has started to work faster? My biometrics were done on November 1st, 2007, and I have not heard from Vermont since that time
