Today my fiance went out for a bit and upon returning his parents told him they had been visited by the local police (Marine Drive District) wanting to provide him with paperwork for his police clearance.

He has only applied at this time for his clearance from the Passport agency and had not gone to the commissioners office for the local police clearance.

Can anyone tell us what might be going on? They have asked that he appear at the police station on Monday with copies of his old passport (his most recent is at the passport agency), electric bill, phone bill, ration card, election card, birth certificate. He must appear with 2 copies of each all noterized.

Does anyone have a clue what could be going on? Does the passport office alert the police? My fiance's father is a lawyer and even he was confused.

Thank you!

hey ,

Just dont worry... they want to see in person who is applying for the PCC, I also had to go .... and you know what... the funny thing is... i applied at the commissioners office with all the docs u mentioned... they gave me a Govt treasury receipt.. stood in line for 4 hours to pay it.. the sum was Rs.300 .... went to police station.. showed them the receiptt.... i was callled next day.. was handed out a letter saying... if u want this to go fast u .. urself take ur report copy to the local police station.... otherwise it will take 4 days for our constable to deliver there.... for tht service i payed 100 Rs.... I took the report myself.... with me.. got it stamped from local police station.... again paid 200 Rs to the locail police station guy..... toook copy with me in an hour went back to commisioners office... and gave to the man.. I requested for English PCC ... so i was said it will be extra feeee... I understoood and was callled the next day in evening.. waited for 1 hour.. got a PCC on a xerox paper with ready made proforma.. where just my details were written with pen by hand, photo pasted... stamped.... and again paid 300Rs.. to the Commisioners office guy who made PCC.... in alll expenses around 1000Rs.

When i was leaving he said.... For your people its 20$ as you are going to AMERICA and you can afford this ... I smiled and LEFT................

Hi Jigi,

What do u mean by the commissioner's office here?

I have lived in Rajasthan for four years and got my passport issued from the jaipur pass port office.

After which I have lived in Bangalore for a year and then Hyderabad.

So now do I have to visit the commissioner's office at every place (Jaipur,Bangalore and Hyderabad)?

Thanks,

To follow up...

He went on Monday. Turns out because his most recent passport was issued to him while he was here in the United States (from the Indian Embassy) they will have to go back through the entire process of police clearance certificate. They told him it will be another 2 weeks and then he can go to the PCC for his other clearance... all the while they are holding his passport.... and time is ticking away for us to have an interview.

From what we can tell he's getting the full work up of investigation. It's being sent to the Indian equal of the FBI.

Well if we aren't already squeeky clean... we will be once this is all over!

Hey Sind,

Did you ever get an answer to your question about having to get a police certificate from each place (Jaipur, Bangalore, and Hyderabad)?

Below I have outlined the process for obtaining the PCC from Police Commissioner in Mumbai. If you can get it any other way in a shorter time, try it by all means. There seems to be no standardization in this process.

TO OBTAIN PCC THROUGH POLICE COMMISSIONERS OFFICE IN MUMBAI

Visit the Victoria Terminus Crime Branch Police Commissioner’s Office. They accept the completed form along with supporting documents. The turnaround time for this is 1 month. A constable from your local police precinct (from all addresses in past 5 years) personally visits you at home to verify your details.

Here is the checklist of things to take to Police Commissioner’s Office:

a. Passport

b. 2 ATTESTED photocopies of passport

c. Rs. 100 Fees (DD only)

d. Completed PCC Form

e. Photo 3.5 X 3.5 cm (to be affixed to PCC form)

f. Ration Card (original)

g. Most Recent Pay Stub

h. Neighbor’s Reference

The address & phone numbers of the Regional Passport Office:

Office of the Commissioner of Police

D.N.Road, Mumbai 400001

Telephone No- 22641261

Remember that red tapism in bombay is a means of extracting money from your fiance...your fiance's father being a lawyer, should know better...Police certificates in Bombay should take just a week even if you have a passport issued in the US. And the police have no legal right to hold on to his passort.

As for the passport office clearance get that first from the passport office and then go to the police station with that. Then there should be no problem.
