Congratulations on your new addition, Jen. He looks beautiful and very friendly. Your other animals are also adorable:-).

One quick observation about your new dog . . . that seems like a lot of potty breaks in a short time. Is it possible he might have a urinary tract infection and need medication? Have you taken him to a vet yet just for a quick checkover? I know cats can develop urinary tract infections from overly stressful situations. Coming from such a stressful environment might have had some ramifications for him, too. That might also be a contributing factor to his very quiet nature at this moment.

Good luck with your menagerie.

Good question, Kathryn... I took him directly to my vet from the pound to have him checked out. No heartworm (which was my big worry) and everything else checked out ok. He doesn't ask to go out as much during the day, and he asked to go out much less the second night, so perhaps he's just getting used to the rules. If he continues to show signs of frequent urination, I'll take him back to the vet after Christmas.

We had a bit of an altercation tonight, after they came in from being outside. The shepherd started it and wound up with a little cut on his left cheek. All in all, he is actually handling it better than I thought he would. We just have to keep them distracted and not let them get each other in a corner until they get used to each other.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Ooooooh I love him! He looks so adorable! I'm going to keep that in mind about the disposition of the English breed it's good to know. When I was looking at the pix I felt he looks more like a "Bailey to me then a Beau". He is a lovely dog. (L)

The New Guy is adorable! I wish you could keep calling him that, because it's hysterical, but my vote is for Beau as well, he looks like a Beau. :)

This is my adopted baby. His owner passed away and he never left her side. In fact, she was deceased for about 4 days and he licked a spot on her face raw - I think he was trying to wake her up. He does that to me if I stay in bed too long. He has been such a sweetheart and is very happy to have a new home.

What a beautiful cat, and such a sad story. Always makes me wonder how animals can be so forgiving of people even after they've felt abandoned... or worse, abused.

I like "The New Guy" for a name too. You could just call him "Guy" for short :)

He may also just be finding the house a bit too warm at night time to sleep. What is your thermostat set at? He's kind of a big guy, and his normal body temperature is naturally a lot higher than ours, or your smaller dogs. Maybe the shelter kennels were kept cooler and he's not used to warm. Our Bruno gets hot in the house and wants to stay outside. But then he gets lonely and wants back in. So we just keep the thermostat at a tolerable level for him, and keep an extra layer on for ourselves. ;)

Certainly have the vet check for a UTI when he goes in for his snip operation, but if that is clear, maybe he's too warm and needs a cool spot to sleep.

Just getting back to checking this.... we keep our thermostat set at 66 degrees. We keep layers on as well. He seems to have settled in, gradually getting me up fewer times.... last night, he didn't wake me at all. So, perhaps he's ok after all.

We left the dogs alone together for the first time on Christmas Day.. for the first 2 hours, I separated the shepherd from the other two and when I went home to check on them and feed them dinner, the shepherd was a nervous wreck. Everyone else was fine. So, after they ate, I left the three of them to roam the house. Figured they'd have to work stuff out anyway, and perhaps best without 'Mom' to have to defend.... we got home a few hours later and all was well with the world. So we are guardedly optimistic.

Still haven't decided on a name yet....
