After reading the book 'Marley & Me' I think of all Labs as a Marley! If you haven't read it, then it's a must

Congratulations on your new addition, and bless you for taking in a condemned dog. He will be the love of your life, that's for sure :D

I had a yellow lab when I was real little. Her name was Garfunkle. And we had a black cat named Simon to go with. ;)

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

woof!

interesting... I didn't know.

"As with some other breeds, the English (typically "show") and the American (typically "working" or "field") lines differ. Labs are bred in England as a medium-sized dog, shorter and stockier with fuller faces and a slightly calmer nature than their American counterparts which are bred as a larger lighter-built dog. No distinction is made by the AKC, but the two classifications come from different breeding. Australian stock also exists; though not seen in the west, they are common in Asia. Other "local minor variants" may also exist in some areas."

I didn't realize this either, until I did some research. But I didn't see the 'calmer nature' trait listed.... that's a relief. I was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong since he has been so quiet. Haven't even heard him bark yet!

He doesn't want to sleep in the bedroom with us... prefers the wood floor in the hallway/kitchen. The night before, he was so restless that I slept in family room on the sofa so he wouldn't keep disturbing David and the other dogs. He asked to go out several times that night.

Last night was a little better. David was kind enough to take a turn on the sofa with him but I left the bedroom door open just in case. Wouldn't you know, at 5:30am he came in to wake ME up to let him outside. When I walked in to the family room, David was snoring on the sofa.... he said the dog never came to wake him. He woke me again at 6:30am and then everyone was up. :P

Here's a link to a web album that I hope works.... pics of the New Guy and the other two. I added pics of our horses in as well!

It sounds like your sweet boy has decided who he loves the most! Too bad that includes middle of the night potty breaks.

I'm hoping that settles down once he gets a better sense of the 'house rhythm'... :clock:

He's lovely

My friend has an English Lab, he's just like how you describe your new doggie. Very calm, my friend says he's the best dog she's ever owned.

Love the face on the Beagle

Congrats on the new addition to your family!

I went to a shelter last week to 'look' for a kitten. Here is my beautiful Princessa that came home with me. After they took her out of the cage and she curled up in my arms, I just had to adopt her. She was so so sick the first few days. I am happy to report today, she is 100% better and is acting like a total diva

Very cute puppy :) Looks alot like the labs I grew up with... we had a beau but he was a black lab. I think it's supposed to be a yellow lab trait to come running with that 'look' when you call, but it's so cute :luv: Don't worry about the quiet thing, we didnt' even have to train ours not to bark and it happens only rarely (usually when there is a cat around the yellow :) )

Jackie, happy your kitty is doing better!

Congratulations on your new addition, Jen. He looks beautiful and very friendly. Your other animals are also adorable:-).

One quick observation about your new dog . . . that seems like a lot of potty breaks in a short time. Is it possible he might have a urinary tract infection and need medication? Have you taken him to a vet yet just for a quick checkover? I know cats can develop urinary tract infections from overly stressful situations. Coming from such a stressful environment might have had some ramifications for him, too. That might also be a contributing factor to his very quiet nature at this moment.

Good luck with your menagerie.
