Since this time of year is perfect for giving gifts, I am thinking of giving this vase, Silver on Ebony, to my boss. The midnight black glass is contrasted by a hand-painted design on silver, created w/ limited edition by The Fenton Company.

Now, I am not sure if this is going over the top. My co-workers were giving cards and food to everyone. This is my first Christmas in the US and my first time to work here.

I don't put prices on gifts so I am not sure with this one. I just thought that this gift is perfect for him, since he has recently renovated his house.

Do you give gifts to your boss or co-workers? And when is a gift expensive, or considered cheap? Clearly, I'm not good with this, yet.

Any inputs are welcome. And do you think this vase looks "okay"? :help: Ignore the fingerprints all over the vase. :P

I have never bought a gift for a boss or co-worker. I dont even care for the idea of having to buy gifts for extended family. I buy things only for my S/O and children. I'd rather do something out of the ordinary for all others. e.g., Run a personal errand for my boss to save them the time of doing it. Help a co-worker on a project so they meet a deadline. To me, the gifts that come from the heart (and not from the pocket) are far more appreciated! :)

Personally, I find it inappropriate to give something of monetary value to a superior at work, but I know people do it all the time. I think a card or homemade baked goods would be better. We don't exchange gifts at all where I work.

ETA: The vase is very beautiful though.

hi,

Gifting is really complex in your case.. as all ur co - workers are gifting stuff like foood and cards and they are in majority... I think you should gift the same.. or may be gift him a nice Neck Tie..... and you can Save the case as a birthday gift in the future......

thats what I think

I don't give stuff to my boss.

She makes twice as much money as me, if she wants something, she can buy it herself.

I always think of that scene in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation". Where Clark walks in with the present for his boss. "Put in on the table with the others.", His boss grumbles. When Clark does, we see they are all obviously the same stupid cliché gift. I think this says a lot as to the general feeling of gifting to superiors.
