We did our Christmas shopping today. Due to budget constraints as well as my own personal tradition, we only buy for the kids in the family. 8 kids, we spent just under $200.

I couldn't help but feel a bit stingy, seeing what everyone else around us seemed to be spending. But it's the thought that counts, right?

ETA: the first poll question didn't come through, so just tell me what you spend! :P

I spend approx $50 on each member of my immediate family, i.e. sisters, brothers, parents and then I spend a LOT more on the kids. I won't say how much since then I won't be in denial any longer.

I'm with you, Jenn. Our budget (for Hanukkah) was $200 and we stuck to it.

We got lucky because I received an unexpected giftcard from my employer which we used to buy gifts. We've limited the gift buying to the children as well, but we did buy a tin of chocolates for our neighbor who has been very good to us.

I didn't really follow a strict budget other than knowing that I needed to get something for the children in our extended family. Also, Jinky sent nearly a week's pay to her family back home.

With all the money spent on a tree, decorations, food, family charity - somewhere close to a grand. I would've been in shock if someone told me that's how much we'd spend for Christmas a couple of months ago, but I'm thankful that we were able to do what we've done.

I love buying lots of Christmas presents for everyone in the family but this year I am short of money and only bought for my son. About $375-400 because this includes X-Box ($279 and $44 for express shipping). He didn't have a big list because he can no longer say doesn't matter how much it costs because Santa's buying it. His birthday is the week after Christmas and don't know what he wants yet.

Around $500 for 6 family members, 7 cats and a number of friends - including shipping to Canada. We spent the most on each other.

Spent about $200, and that was for a lot of people, at least 10. So obviously no expensive gifts this year! Me and my family said awhile ago to not buy each other anything pricey, just small things, so everyone agreed on it and it saved us lots of money.
