Neil is watching my cousins today - 9 year old, 10 year old and 17 months old all girls. He called me to tell me that Avanly announced that Emma (the baby) opened a Christmas present and it just happened to be Avanly's present. I HIGHLY doubt the baby opened the present because she has been playing with the gifts constantly for the past few weeks and all she has done is remove the bows. So I'm thinking that Avanly actually opened the present and blamed it on the baby since she can't say many words. Do I wrap it again or do I just not give it to her since she decided it was ok to open it? I know it sounds mean but I'm kinda mad. That kid drives me nuts and always does stuff like this.

I'd wrap it again, otherwise she'll think that if she unwraps the presents earlier she can get the toys earlier too

no need to be mean about it, just explain that this is a christmas present and as such, she'll have to wait until that day to receive it :)

Saludos,

Caro

Seriously, she's ruined her own surprise so she has punished herself in a way. Explain it to her that way and maybe she'll learn a lesson and I agree with the re wrap and put back under the tree idea too.

Of course, your kids, your decision.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's my cousins not my kids. Neil has just called back to tell me that the oldest one told on the 9yr old for unwrapping the present and is now being really nasty to her. It's so funny how kids work things out on their own. The oldest is more like a little adult than a kid.

What I would do is rewrap it BUT give it to the other older girl instead.

Rewrap it then on Christmas make her open all her gifts last. Have "santa" leave a note saying he knows X has been bad and should be the last to open her presents.

Isn't this all a bit OTT? She's 9.

Never too young for a swift kick in the azz :jest:

Totes. I would give her a different gift and either give hers to another kid (if age appropriate) or donate it to charity. Never to young to learn a lesson...

lol well it is kinda over the top but she does stuff like this all the time. another example is she threw something at my mom's bedroom door to wake her up on purpose a few months and then blamed it on another kid just so she could get my mom to watch her "play"

The best way to teach a kid a lesson is to let other kids do the teaching.
