Using Forever stamps to send a letter abroad

Okay, VJ peeps -- do you know if you can use Forever stamps to post a letter to an address outside of the US? Obviously, I know I'd need more than one (I'm not that dumb, I think), and the issue is not how many do I need, but can they be used towards the postage? I have a whole sheet of them here on my desk, and I'd rather use them than traipse over to the post office right now if I can avoid it.

what are forever stamps?

They're non-denominated first class stamps issued in the US, much like the UK 1st and 2nd class stamps. They're good to use no matter what the current rate is for postage.

I don't know, but I can't see why you couldn't do it. I guess you could calculate on the basis of the current postage rate per stamp and choose enough stamps to cover the cost.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

That's what I was hoping -- used to do this all the time in the UK with their first class stamps. In theory, it seems right.

Yes, you can.

Ta! You have saved me a trip to the Post Office of Doooooom... (conveniently located near the corner of Elm and High Streets in beautiful downtown New Haven, CT :P )

Can the Forever Stamp be used for International Mail?

Yes, but keep in mind, the postage value of the Forever Stamp is the domestic First-Class Mail single-piece 1-ounce letter rate that is in effect on the day of use (mailing). Since the international postage rates are always higher than the comparable domestic rates, additional postage would have to be affixed.

When in doubt look for the answer in the correct place, asking about US Postage stamps, so look on the US Post office website.

Aha! Fantastic. Only need to figure out how much a 3oz letter will cost to send to the UK then.

Okay, I totally lost my ability to judge the weight of anything in imperial measure while I was in the UK, so 3oz sounds a bit heavy now that I think of it. I mean, it's just a piece of paper, an envelope, deposit slip and two cheques, so must be more like 2oz, no?

(where the eff are my postal scales???)

It's prolly under 1 oz. A card is 1 oz. Hubby sent like 3 pages the other day - hence the weight.
