To migrate to Australia you can do it with your same sex partner if you've been together long enough such that it is considered a de facto marriage.

I was wondering something along similar lines the other day (while watching the arquette sibling on the Surreal Life). If you are born a man, and have a sex change to be a woman...can you get a K-1 or K-3 for your "changed" sex spouse?

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

If you can get your BC changed and can pass the "peek test" at the medical then I don't see how they can know!

UK has partner visa's. A friend of ours from Thailand lives with his boyfriend in Wales. It would be really nice if the US would follow suit. I would say that it is no more (or less) open to fraud than current visas.

The laws are that way because the majority of voting Americans want them that way.

True but its arguable as to whether or not those laws are correct, based as they are (almost solely) in religious morality. A couple of centuries ago much of the voting public approved slavery for instance, doesn't mean that it was 'right'.

Broad changes in human reasoning are often reflected in law. Clearly we're not yet ready to stop poking into other people's private business and concede that homosexuality is a valid lifestyle choice.

I think that the laws would be 'right' by definition, as long as they do not violate any constitutional provisions.

Sadly laws regarding slavery were written into the Constitution at that time, but thankfully they have been amended out.

Im sure as cultural values change, ppl one day may look back and say how stupid it was to think the way that we did at the time. But right now...doubtful anything will change soon. Im not sure how much religion has to do with it....in many places yes, in other places I wouldnt think that it is a religious thing.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

I just want to convey something....whatever this thread turns into...well that's gonna be anyone's guess...and I'm sure that there are people who are going to disagree wildly about laws, religion, etc blah blah blah. But here's the thought I had when I first started this:

How would you feel, separated by countries, by distance...but there were no visas to get in either country because you were a gay couple? If you were still feeling the immense love that we each share for our partners....feeling the frustration of being apart...and not being able to do a damn thing about it.

Another reason I'm proud to be Canadian!

In Canada, same-sex relationships count for immigration. :)

I am watching the GLAAD awards right now & I've been thinking....YOu know...this is prolly really stupid, but I have never given a thought to those couples who are separated by two different countries...but who are gay. They have no options like K1, K3 etc. And that makes me sad

I couldn't even imagine feeling the way I feel about David & having my country tell me he can't immigrate cos our love isn't 'right'....it's bad enough for two gay ppl in the same country, but add our difficulties...and it's pretty much impossible.

And that sucks!

Yes. That would stink.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
