Lots of 'Canadians' in the title to make sure it doesn't get moved away lol

Anyway, based on the discussion emancipation and Mephys were just having, I was just wondering, if you had the opportunity to not work, but you wouldn't necessarily be wealthy but you would have enough money to pay the bills and eat well, would you want that?

Good topic Trailmix!

Hmm...

I like working. Currently I'm not in my dream job by any means but I enjoy it greatly. If I could sing and get paid for it, I would do it in a heartbeat. Being a music teacher is my goal and when I move to the states I'm going to strive to achieve that.

If I won the lottery I think I would still work but it would be doing something I completely adored. I'd get too bored not working.

Hugs to you (F)

I voted yes too, but in reality, my answer is probably somewhere between yes and no, I like what I do. I would like to have the flexibility to travel more and be able to spend more time with my parents. I'd also love to be able to live wherever I want (ie, Tucson). So I would probably quit my job, but I might do pro bono work or write books or something with my time that just isn't an option right now.

I voted no cause I just experience the most boring 7 months of my life, even though I was anticipating it for 1+year.

It drived me nuts to have nothing to do and barely enough money for bills and all. I need extras!!

So I would at least work part time.

I voted yes...I've been teaching for 13 years and to be honest, I've felt more burnout this year than ever before. I never get to do things at our daughter's school like other moms and I miss that...I know she wishes I could just come eat lunch (ick...school lunch!) with her but I can't. *sigh*

I do think I'd work part time though, just to keep myself "out there" if ya know what I mean. :)

I don't actually work right now, quit my job last...may, I think it was, I don't miss the work, I find stuff to do, I was thinking about it today though as I was having trouble thinking of something to do.....needless to say I am wrapping gifts :)

I have worked with a lot of good people and a lot of horrible people, however when we move we plan on doing something ourselves rather than just going back to work.

People have a hard time with me.

I just don't fit anywhere.

I'm relatively young and yet have been "retired" for almost a decade....basically travelling, adventuring, being fed and a place to rest my weary head (usually on boats).

I chose it for the experience.

I have not not worked at all.

Most of the times I was working...for love, though, and sometimes doing my freelance work and/or contract work when in Canada.

It is difficult to explain and tell you all about it without writing a book.

Seriously.

I have earned so little money especially in the past 6 years or so...the life experience though and what skills i have picked up along the way are

PRICELESS!!

Uber valuable.

I love to work, and I love not to work.

I always have projects on the go and I always have things to do.

My incessant creativity does not allow me to sit around watching my nails grow. :hehe:

Earning money is a good thing; the work people (myself included) do to get it is what I always question.

and

How much is (ever) enough?

The luxury of time to explore is everything to me.

I couldn't vote...none fit. hee hee

Wow, this is a very interesting poll. However, the premise is that you're working now, and I'm not. hehe

So, I can't do the poll, however I'd still like to add my two cents worth in!

I've worked since I've been 14 years old, and throughout high school and college and university, I worked up to 3 jobs simutaneously. Then, I found my career, and worked probably 50 or more hours a week at the same job for 26 years. I had the opportunity to retire. That I did. I'm not receiving any pension, as I'm holding off on that because I don't need it right now. While I loved my job, it was HUGELY stressful, and even more stressful than I ever realized now that I'm not working there now.

Now, I have my GC, and I"m not looking for work. I love volunteering twice a week. I'm taking a language class, and I'm taking an acquacise class, so my week is full. I do all the housework and grocery shopping as well. I wouldn't change a thing. Sometimes I get very lonely, and realize on my non-volunteer days, that other than talking to Gene at 5 am before he goes to work, I can be all day without another adult voice.

So, what I miss is the friendships and excitement of working with others. I'm slowing getting that as I get to know people where I volunteer. I'm very very fortunate, that Gene makes good money, and it's not necessary at all that I work.

Frankly, I'm a very very lucky lady that I don't have to work. Upon reflection however, career or not, I do know that we spend FAR too much time working, to obtain "material" things that we don't need. What's wrong with scraping by? I did that for years. We had one vehicle, took a trip once a year, ate well, and bills were paid, we didn't have extras. Frankly, we didn't need them.

I think this is what happens to your mind at 50! That and I'm not working, so I have lots of time to think on these things...

Sorry for rambling!

I agree. That's one thing I've never been is materialistic. We did go in debt for this house, but it's hard not to these days. We eke out a living, but our bills are paid. We don't get to travel like we want, but our day will come. Right now, I stay where I am (as far as work goes) so that I have time with our daughter rather than having her stay at school all day and then go to afterschool care until late. Some of our kids arrive at school between 6:30 and 7:00 am and stay there until between 5:30 and 6:00pm. I'm able to have the same schedule as our daughter...I'm off when she's off and we come home together.

I'd still like to be able to stay home though. :)

Just retired early from Police work on PEI after 18 years. Did K-9 training and handling and then started my own dog obedience business prior to moving to Tennessee (k9pack.com). Created my own methods etc. Something about being your own boss really appeals to me. Getting excited about openining up business here and already have people wanting to use me.

I voted yes. After working for 27 years, I'm looking forward to a break. The longest time I've had off was 5 months when I had Kelsie. I think that after I've been off for a while, I'll be looking to do something. May not necessarily be for pay, but just for the sake of doing something.

Time will tell.

April 13, 2009 - Welcome to the USA letter rec'd. PRC to be rec'd within 3 weeks.

April 16, 2009 - 2 yr GC rec'd in mail.

Right now I want to work part time. I was a full time customs broker for years in Calgary and then at a port....until they decided to shut my office down. Then I was a single mom and panic hit in. I survived. I now go to school via the internet from home...(not at the moment..damn computer) I just got my AOS approved so I can work...but I am reluctant. My kids are only in kindergarten and home some days, so I am greedy and want to spend those days with them. I work heaps here on the farm, so in reality I am not doing "nothing"...lol. Only thing is that I would have to drive on the highway about 25mins or so for a job. I just want to get my internet schooling done so I can work from home. What was the question?

Why is this such a hard question?!?!?!?!?

Oct 1/09 - I-751 package sent

Oct 3 - package delivered

Oct 5 - NOA mailed

Oct 13 - 1st NOA received and additional letters for my daughters I filed with. NOAs stated Resident Status

has been extended for 1 year and that we will be receiving a letter for an ASC appointment for

fingerprints, photo, and signature.

Dec 2009 - Received 10 year permanent resident card.

Feb 2010 - My children received their 10 year permanent resident cards.

Oct 2010 - My children were legally adopted by my USA Citizen husband.
