Will there be trouble with my age?

I am 17 years old and we just got approved the k3 visa petition. It will be in Egypt soon. I know you have to be 18 to be the sponsor, but that is after he comes to USA and then adjust status right? So in a few months I will be 18 and can meet that requirement. Is there any knowledge about this? We can go and adjust status next November when I turn 18 and can be the sponsor. But for now I was wondering if the k3 will be even possible.

When your husband goes for the K-3 interview you are going to have to submit an I-134 to prove that you can sponsor him. Since you can have cosponsors I think you should be OK. I don't know what the rules are if the primary sponsor is under 18 but since your petition was approved I am guessing there is a way to work it out.

Best bet would be to call USCIS and/or Cairo and see what they say.

Good luck!

I was thinking along the same lines. Line up a joint sponsor (you would still have to fill in the forms and all since you are the petitioner). I don't know about the age thing.

Good luck, L.

i have been with him since I was in the 8th grade. I have been to Egypt 2 times and im going back in May if he is not here yet. We were each others first girlfiend/boyfriend and we want so much to finally be together after 3 years. My parents are cosponsoring and they make over 100,000 year so if they would even look at that. We are planning on living in my grandmothers house as it will be totally unoccupied as she is moving and getting married. She said we could live there for free as long as we like. My grandmother and mother have both met him in person and they love him so much. I hope he is here by summer and they let him come regardless of my age.

i thought you had to be 18 to even APPLY for a K visa... or have some kind of proof your parents approve of it. read the directions for a K-3 visa on the USCIS website.

It doesnt really say. But my mom went to the embassy with me when we got the permission to marry.

I just quickly perused the form instructions and I don't see an age requirement. You're legally able to be married in both the US and in Egypt so I don't know why it would be a problem especially since your parents are cosponsoring you. I wouldn't worry so much about it. I remember you from Egyptsearch. You both make such a cute couple I hope it works out for you. (F)

I am guessing that since she was approved she had some kind of document from her parents stating that they consented to the marriage.

The only area I see being a problem is the signing of the I-134. Like I said before, when he goes for the K-3 interview you need to fill out the I-134 which is also an affidavit of support kind of a mini I-864 but it is not legally enforceable. Since you need to sign it I think you need to be 18. It is possible that having cosponsors may be OK.

My advice: call Cairo and ask them what they would require from you for your husband to get the visa.

Do you go to school? I'm really having a hard time believing your parents would allow you to marry at 16!! And i'm more shocked at the embassy for giving you permission to marry. This is just unbelievable!!

At least they are the same age, or even in the same ballpark.

That is not for you to judge. The OP is asking a question here.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I actually find it humorous that you are so outraged by this.
