You know I just want tell you ladies that don't understand the words in the music...neither do I and I speak fluent arabic!!! Don't feel bad, every singer sings in a different dialect, I can make out some words and sometimes it just sounds like jibberish.

On NPR awhile back, they had a piece on Rachid Taha with some of his songs that were pretty spiffy. Tamer mainly listens to Egyptian artists, so this was a welcome change.

I bought about 13 CDs while I was in Morocco but most of them are at home now. The ones I like the most are "I Love You Nancy" but I don't know Nancy who since I don't read Arabic, and Douzi, a young Moroccan. His music is very dancable and fun. We even named our male cat Douzi because he has the same playfulness.

Sarah, if you're working on French you might enjoy Medi1 that Abdel listens to. You can listen to conversations with writers and other artists in French on there. Abdel was a French literature major, so he really gets into discussions like that.

They also play a mix of music from all over the world on their streaming radio link. Some American - Some European - Some Middle Eastern. It might be a way to ease into it if you ever get the urge.

Also, they have a link to Soufi music. I love that for dancing. It's very sensuous.

But hey, if your man doesn't like it, why care? As long as you share an interest in the things he does like that is enough to form a bond. By the way, you two make an adorable couple.
