I agree, amnesty will happen, just be patient. There's plenty of work out there for undocumenteds, I have CS degree friends without papers who repair machines and set up networks for small businesses for cash. Just spread the word and stay. Don't let the fascists win.

Actually, the capitalists do. Communist are so small in number and influence as to be laughable. If they were the only ones who wanted it, it wouldn't even be entertained as a possibility. The only reason its even part of the discussion is because capitalists realize the tremendous folly in deporting a source of cheap labor, and, to a lesser extent, creators and consumers of capital.

Its part and parcel of rising nationalism. You always get a few really extreme folks in the mix.

That said - in Europe at least there has been a problem in recent years of extreme-right political parties (like the BNP and National Front in the UK) enjoying a surge in their membership. I'd be surprised if the US is any different - considering that even the so-called "left" occupy (at best) the center right anywhere else...

I mean... weren't people cheerleading the Swiss SVP party a few months back? If memory serves...

As someone who has a more than passing familiarity with a few little corners of the so-called "third world", and who recognizes that policies and practices of the so-called "first world" have a lot to do with the grinding poverty in the "third world", I am perhaps more sympathetic to their overall plight, and those who try to escape it by any available means, than (I guess!) a lot of VJ'ers are.
