I haven't used Newark as a POE, but I have flown through there recently, and it's quite nice, IMHO. It's big, but well laid out, so it wasn't too hard to find my way around. And the customs/security areas are very efficient -- at least the times I went through there. :) Have you booked your ticket yet????

Now I'm not sure what to do. I really wanted to fly with Northwest and could still do that for at least one leg, however it would give me an hour to connect in newark. at Boston I would have about 4 or 5 hours.

Just because I am a nervous Nellie about this kind of stuff, I personally went with the flight that gave me a good chunk of time to do the whole activating the visa thing. That way if my flight was delayed, or a ton of people going through the POE at the same time, I didn't have to worry about running to make the connecting flight. I had that happen when I was using my AP papers at JFK, and I was freaking out. I don't wish that stress on anybody.

No luck with American Airlines?

hell no, they are way above the rest. a round trip ticket with northwest is way cheaper than a one way with american.
