I thought I would change the topic so that you all wouldn't get your hopes up if you saw "News from Rome".

One of the other sites that I check that has alot more people going through the waiver process had some very depressing news today. This person is from Egypt and submitted a waiver application to Rome as well. They received an email today that Rome is say they are at least 7 months behind in processing applications. Their application is from May 2007 and they are now being told that Rome will not get to these until January 2008. ####### does that mean for those of us that filed in August. For the last 3 months they have been "evaulating" May applications. I had hopes that MAYBE we would get an answer before April. But we quite possibly might not have an answer until July or August if they are taking 3 months to evaulate one month's worth of applications.

By the time that we do have a decision and inshallah it is approved, Hicham will have to get yet another medical exam, police certificate and such because all of that stuff will have expired by the time they are ready to stamp his Visa.

Explain to me how that is right to make people have to renew all of these documents and pay for them all over again because the application couldn't be processed in a timely manner. I'm so f*%$ing angry right now...I don't even have words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hicham says he can't bear to see us leave again, but I don't know how much longer I can last without seeing him. He keeps hoping that somehow they will get to us soon. We feel like we are caught in the worse Catch-22. :(

Hi, Alousa! My husband and I began our "process" in the Cairo Embassy (about as much fun as Morocco to deal) and, after 15 months, his waiver was approved via Rome (keep in mind it sat in Athens untouched for 8 months and then they just suddenly shipped it to Rome for adjudication). Now that we have that approved, you'd think getting the visa would be somewhat straight forward like it is in all other parts of the world (i.e. Europe, Mexico, Canada, etc...) We, too, had to resubmit all new paperwork because the waiver took so long. I know it was my husband's own fault for needing it, but it's not our responsibility that it took a year and three months to adjudicate. To make matters worse, now that Cairo has our new papers, they have called my husband and told him to schedule an appointment to sign off on the DS230. I was impressed, initially, that they called him so soon (of course, I did email them that day, too...)However, whenever he calls the call center, they tell him that they have no appointments. You can imagine that my emails to the embassy to try to figure out HOW to get an appointment scheduled have been useless. They keep telling me to tell my husband to call the same number he has called about 1000 times (wasting countless phone cards). I hear your pain about the discrimination!!! I have finally written to my senators to see if anyone can help me find out why making an appointment (as we were directed to do by the embassy) is such a nightmare. And, for what it's worth, I say go see your hubby, if you can. I leave to see mine in a few days. I lived in Egypt with him for 2 years, and, despite how much I hate living in that country, I miss him like crazy after just 4 months of being apart now. Take care and God bless you!

Nov. 2007- Waiver approved... thank the good Lord!!!!

Dec. 2007- Interview- but not really an interview- just had to sign the updated DS230; Told to expect visa in 2 weeks.

How about a raise of hands for all of you who have had someone say to them "Oh, I thought you just married someone and they were a citizen". I still meet so many people who think that is all there is to it. I can understand that if you aren't going through the process, then why would you know...but after all that has happened. C'mon!

Thank you all for helping me stay "afloat". It's been my "virtual" visa friends that have helped me so much when the days get tough. I hate this process for all of us. I hurt for all of you who don't have resolution because I know how tough it is.

Hopeful, I think I posted a reply on the "other" site about how "hopeful" I was about our application because I think we basically used the same reasons for hardship that you did and your waiver was approved. I'm just afraid to dream, you know?

Allousa- do not be afraid to dream of approval!!! If you looked at the Rome site (as I did for the 7 months that my husband's waiver application was there) not ONE waiver was approved from Cairo until ours. Every other country had approvals, except for Egypt. But, I kept telling myself and my husband that, eventually, they had to approve someone from Cairo, why not him? Yes, we had our "moments" of doubt, but I really believe it is so important to keep your faith (whatever it may be) that God can and will soften someone's heart and that your husband's waiver application will end up in the hands of that person. Now, I am going to have to remind myself (daily) to think that way about Cairo!!!
