I notice that the Germans format their addresses a little differently than we do. So the question is do I put her address as the Germans write it (blahblahblahstr. 9) or do I "Americanize" it (9 blahblahblahstr.) Any advice would be helpful!!

Do it the German way, the way mail would be addressed to her. By the way, there is no single American way to do addresses. From what country do you think this one came? "617 North 1200 West"

There is definitely a standard format for US addresses. It basically follows a most-specific to least-specific format. The very first item on the address is the most "atomic" (singular) adressee, i.e. either the person or organizational unit. The very last item (besides the country) is the zip code, which is the least specific. Compare to many Eastern European (and others) addresses, which start (more logically, IMHO) with least specific and narrow down to most specific. It's basically the US addressing scheme upside-down. The person or organization unit being delivered to is the last item in the address.

Where you get wiggle room is in the local delivery area (or "street address"), which is where your example comes into play pushbrk. The format for local delivery areas is not standardized, and only matters to the local post office. I have a friend who lives in an town of population 50'ish. His "street address" is literally "Dan's cabin."

(I used to program software to do global mass mailings. I know *way* too much about the postal system. :) )

You want to use the address in the format with which mail is normally set to her, since this is what the address is ultimately needed for.

An aside, I know several folks who don't even USE their "street address".. Just name and town/zip is enough..

Anyway, good luck!
