Use for cars

Versus

Use for imitation samurai swords.

I was blind & now I see. Of course, imitation samurai swords are actually entirely necessary implements, utilised on a daily basis by billions of people worldwide. I feel like such a ####.

Yeah, it's the governments job to tell us what we can have and what we can't.

What is the "use" of cigarettes? How many die each year, directly or indirectly, from them?

Cigarette use? None for me; I don't smoke. But governments are ensuring that they don't cause more harm than necessary, eg. banning the sale to children and banning smoking in public areas. If someone wants to kill themselves with lung cancer, that's up to them. Similarly if someone wants to slit their wrists with razor blades, do you honestly believe I would advocate we ban them too? Or are we all on some extreme-and-ludicrous-argument fest today? However - strange tho I am - I don't see the need for people to arm themselves with imitation samurai swords. I do need enlightenment, it appears.

I agree. Banning Samurai swords isn't overreaching, IMO.

You seem to be missing the point. If someone wants to commit murder there is an unlimited number of things you can use as a weapon, be it a tacky decoration like a fake sword or the family car. You can't ban everything that can be used.

It is not arming themselves. Why doesn't someone have the right to purchase a decorative sword if that is what they like to display in their den? Someone can kill with a candlestick too. Objects don't do the killing. Banning an object because it might or has killed someone? You need to ban a whooollle lot of things.

You seem to mistake me for someone who wants to ban everything that can be used as a weapon.

It's a ridiculous argument. Yes, I'm sitting here surrounded by stuff that I could use to cause injury to another person. However, all of this stuff has an original and useful purpose. I don't see why I would buy an imitation samurai sword. Are they particularly good for chopping vegetables and everyone is aware of this except me?

The real samurai swords are exempt.

In the case of very sharp and long sword, crafted and developed to do maximum damage quickly, I'd say it's reasonable to limit where and when someone could possess one. It's a public safety issue. I imagine it would be very difficult for the average person to defend themselves from being attacked by such a sword and one person with a sword like that could fend off a lot of unarmed people who'd attempt to bring them down.

Self defense, seeing how y'all managed to ban guns. A brutha needs a way to defend himself.
