I am SO glad I saw this thread before going to bed! I went to BC for the first time last May/June. I've never ever been a ketchup (ok ok catsup) person, but I fell in love with it in BC. We went to McDonald's on the way to his place that night (which was MUCH different to me as well) and I actually had to look under the bun to see what that yummy new sauce was.:lol:

I keep trying to convince Alf to mail a few bottles with my next can of Timmy's, but he just laughs. All of my US friends think I'm insane when I say the ketchup was so much better in Canada. :D

I'd skip the sour cream, since it's a diary product, they probably won't let that through the border. Not sure about ketchup, that's just seems so odd to bring across, but probably won't have an issue with it...

In all the years I have done cross-border shopping, I have NEVER been hassled on grocery items.... coming or going.

They aren't going to care.. From my experience...

I took ketchup in.. no problems..

They ask me about beef, citrus and veggies.. nothing else, and i always have chips, fish, cheese whiz, ketchup etc. in my trunk.. (Land Crossing POE)

One funny story I have about CDN customs.. on my way back from England, i brought curry ketchup back (mmmmmmm) and chocolate.. those were the 2 things my friends and family asked for.

Because I had been on a farm in Wales, i was pulled into secondary and they questioned my "claimed purchases" .. i had claimed chocolate and ketchup.. the lady asked me point blank " are you pregnant or something?".. ha ha!! it was halarious.. I think she thought I was such an odd duck for having those 2 items in my bag she didn't question me further.. just told me not to go on a CDN farm for 2 weeks!! tee hee..

You can tell them it's biodegradable traction for driving in snow and ice. Much less weight in the car -- ergo better mileage -- than having, say, kitty litter or sand.

Check the "International Foods" aisle in your grocery store in the US. There won't be a "Canadian" section, but if you have a "British" section, you may be able to find the non-HFCS ketchup and other things there.

I know y'all are going to think me weird, but it took me a long time to get used to the US version of Colgate Total. It tasted completely different. I bring back toothpaste whenever I go home for a visit.

Sigh, another thing that's going on my list.
