Ok I feel better, thanks guys. I have a future relative that openly dislikes the US and Americans who makes alot of the same comments so it had me worrying.

I agree with the issues regarding the healthcare SYSTEM, meaning the INSURANCE companies here not paying when they should and getting away with restricting payment on life threatening treatments. It's outrageous and the blame shouldn't be on the hospitals or doctors. It has nothing to do with ketchup so I won't go any further on that here.

As for the HFCS issue it's something I knew was there I guess, but didn't realize it was an issue. If it's affecting our health & waistlines something should be done! It's surprising with all the health awareness going on here that we continue to have something like that put into our food. I wonder what the real reason for that is. Probably cheaper or something <_< .

And as for cheese, you haven't had wisconsin cheese obviously. We have the best cheese :D !

Then again, for those of you expressing a fondness for Cheezewiz im afraid there's no hope for your cheese tastebuds :P .

Oh my..you are very right! Wisconsin cheese is unbeatable. Cheese heads are the coolest! hahaha, I own one

Ok I'll derail it woot woot!!

While I do think Michael Moore's movies have a slant and must be taken with a grain of salt, I think his movies are important. They make people talk and think about important things.

Who else has made a movie about gun control or health care that is actually interesting to watch?

Of course he has his bias, but most documentary film makers do. I think people need to watch, then use their own information and reasoning skills to decide what to believe (like you have to do with all information :) )

Hubby and I had the same discussion on the weekend. I said .. Michael Moore does cause you to ask questions.. and he's not at all sneaky about the axes he's grinding.. he's totally obvious when he's responding emotionally and no longer documenting a certain fact etc.

I woudln't call him a journalist by any means, but his films are important IMO especially to shake us up and to cause us to ask some great thought provoking questions..

My hubby's never seen one of his films but he's TOTALLY against them..

I just wanted to mention that I thought that one part was funny in one of his movies where he went to that bank and they were offering free guns if you opened a bank account with them :blink::wacko:

I have nothing against watching it to get you talking about the actual facts. But I think he could have done a lot better in being more truthful. I don't believe 90% of the things his films say, and he is a total hypocrite. I HATE when people try to use the things he says as "fact" or as reason to believe a certain way. I'll provide ONE of the many links I have talking about his hypocracy :)

i also fear laundry/dishes... our dispensers are covered in calcium residue, and our dishes are never actually clean. i wish jet dry worked :( lol

Our tap water is highly chlorinated so I don't drink it. We have a filter on the fridge water dispenser which works great. I also use bottled water.

As for your dishes, Natalie.... I have the same problem here with calcium residue. And, no, jet dry doesn't work. If you can find Lemi Shine in your area try that. It's an excellent product. And I also find that Electrasol 3in1 tabs (with the powerball) work best with hard water.

Sorry you feel we're bashing the US, CBR. We definitely are not. I love the US and I love the Americans. Don't you know we're cousins? :D

HFCS.... I have gained weight because I can't get away from the stuff. I'm going mental trying to figure a way out of eating it without going to extremes. I am so unhappy.

US healthcare..... I can honestly say that I have never been so impressed with healthcare as I have with the US. It's got Canadian healthcare beat hands down. Now, mind you, I am NOT commenting on those who can and can't afford it and the whole insurance thing. I am just commenting on the healthcare that I have witnessed with my American relatives. It's absolutely amazing. There was a putting green and shops in the long term recover facility that my husband's cousin went to after his stroke! There was a huge lounge for the relatives to visit with a big screen tv and piano and internet access and all kinds of things. He had a $20,000 bed that was specifically built to prevent bedsores. There was a beautiful water fountain on the grounds when my father-in-law looked out his hospital room window when recovering from back surgery. Everything in both hospitals was pristine and new and the staff were lovely and looked after their patients with great care and concern. And then I went home to look after my Mom in her Canadian hospital bed and it was dull and dingy and old and not a nurse or an aid to be found. I ended up doing stuff for not only my Mom, but for the lady in the bed next to her. It was shocking.

Anyway.... sorry, but I have to confess that I've been to Wisconsin (Appleton) and was looking forward to the cheese. I was completely shocked to discover that I couldn't get real cheese OR butter anywhere I went! :o And the reason you don't like Cheese Whiz, CBR, is because it's made differently here. We don't like it either. It probably has HFCS in it. :P

Hugs to you Krikit! The only places I have seen consistantly products that are without HFCS are either private Health/Natural/Whole foods stores and Trader Joes AND it looks like they don't have a store in FL.. but if you can get yourself to Atlanta - they have a great one in Roswell! They always make you feel so welcomed, and kids are treated REALLY well in the store! ;)

Thanks E. :-) I've heard a lot about Trader Joes. The next time I'm in Atlanta I'll definitely stop in. (I think I mentioned to you that my sister-in-law lives there.) In fact, Atlanta is on the list of one of the places which we may live next.

are you kidding me...I would never ever recommend anyone to watch that info twisting, hypocritical, lying jerk's movies...except to laugh at how unfactual they are. I have very strong opinions about Michael Moore which I will refrain from bringing into this thread for fear of derailing. But I don't like the guy

I agree that he goes a bit far but I believe there is some truth behind the film. I also agree with Trailmix, his movies get people talking.

Thanks for your comment on Healthcare. I'm glad to hear that you had good experiences here and good care. I'm sorry for your mom though :(

I can't believe you couldn't find cheese in Appleton. Where were you looking...at a Stop & Go? What do you consider "real cheese or butter"? In the food stores near me there's always 2 or 3 sections with cheese. One is the cheapo stuff that you find everywhere in the US (ie Kraft) and one has all Wisconsin made cheese and the 3rd if there is one is the imported cheeses. Also, there are some cheese factories up in that area so I'm surprised they don't sell any in the food stores if that's where you looked.

Sorry, I guess I should have elaborated. I was there on business so didn't do any grocery shopping. Not that I could have anyway. We seemed to be miles from nowhere. My experience is with the hotel and the restaurants. Not a natural dairy or cheese product to be found. Everything was edible oil and cheese "product". blech
