EAD approval notice and card not received

On November 15th USCIS supposedly mailed me an approval notice.

Online status had previously said that on November 9th card production had been ordered.

I haven't received either the approval notice or the card.

I _have_ received a notice about the transfer of my AoS application to CSC.

It's now been more than 30 days since approval so I called USCIS and was

told that it has to be treated as a lost document and I need to apply again for the EAD.

Please don't tell me that I'd have to pay for the EAD application this time.

I phoned again, wanting to confirm that the address on the EAD application hadn't

been changed. Anyway, this time the assistant at least suggested putting in a request

to check for returned mail and put a request in. To be actioned on January 16th.

Last hope is to check at the local post office. I have some letters to post so it's

not much inconvenience to go out into the freezing cold to ask a pointless question at

the post office.

So, there are a few possibilties:

(1) If I were a cynical person I'd suggest that they did a fake approval to make their

processing times look better.

(2) I've been very unfortunate and two entirely different documents have been lost.

(3) Somebody is intercepting USCIS approval letters and EADs.

(4) Because the US Postal Service holds our address incorrectly (a missing trailing s

on the street name) on their database the EAD system fails to generate the approval notice

and card; but I've had a transfer notice for my AoS since then.

(5) The Post Office is holding my documents.

(6) Both documents arrived but were taken by somebody else in the house.

(Wife is guardian to two retarded, disabled brothers) It's conceivable, but, again,

I've had other documents since then!

(7) Both documents arrived but got lost amongst the other bumf and were discarded.

(8) Both documents were delivered to the wrong address.

I asked whether the EAD had to be signed for on arrival, but the assistant didn't know.

Aarrgh!

Given the time required to process everything it's possible that I'd have my green card

before my EAD if I applied again.

Does anybody know if there's anything I can do to sort this out without having to reapply?

Ok, I haven't applied for any jobs yet and I don't have my own car, but at least if I had

my EAD I could do _any_ work that would bring in more money.

Fortunately our joint financial position is comfortable enough that we aren't getting into debt

while I'm not working. So I'm glad this isn't happening to somebody else less fortunate.

Aarrgh!

<Lots of stuff with me upset>

Colin

My EAC arrived today! :D

Postmarked November 14th!

Should I have received a separate notification letter?

If my Adjustment of Status doesn't go through before I need to renew, will I need

the separate notification letter at the time I renew or is the letter with my card enough?

Is there anything else for which I'd need the separate notification rather than the card?

Well, I feel a lot happier. :)
