You won't be punished because the CC companies were caught doing something wrong. Your just getting a settlement from a suit. If the CC companies try to retaliate they will have another suit on their hands.

Why would you think that? It's a refund from a company you have done business with. Would he ask the same if you were due a tax refund?

BTW.....If you haven't looked into it, the internet sign up of this took me about 2 seconds. You type in that refund code at the top of the papers you got, it pulls you up, and you check which box you want. I suppose if you did option 2 or 3, you would need to mail it in with your proof. But, if you are just doing option 1, it's very easy to just do it online.

Question about the proof for option two...I couldn't tell if I had to provide proof of ALL the use of CC and debit cards outside of the US, or just provide the number of days that I was out of the country, which would be something like 2000+.

I did option 2, and it only asks for the total number of days you were out of the country.

The thing about this is I am sure the credit card companies settled because they knew they would lose and it would cost them tons more in the end. By hiding fees and giving ####### conversion rates for so many years I am sure they come ahead in the end even with this settlement.

I used my CC perhaps 4x overseas. I saw the charges and the exchange rate and started to carry cash instead on other trips. Those 4 transactions or so amounted to more than $20 overcharges.

Also, you can't say all medical malpractice suits are bad. There are definitely doctors out there who leave instruments in patients, operate while high, operate on the wrong side of a brain, or even do more harm than good, so why shouldn't they be sued?

I'm no fan of lawyers and lawsuits, but then again sometimes the legal action is all the recourse you have and it does some good. Not all lawyers are ambulance chasers.

Reading the form awhile back it states payment could still be awhile, especially if the credit card companies appeal.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Indeed....I'm not waiting by the mailbox. From the website...

"Refunds will be paid after the Court finally approves the settlement, and approves any award of attorneys' fees, awards to the class representatives, and allocation of the settlement fund among Settlement Damages Class members, and any appeals related to that approval are resolved. It is possible that this could take several months, or, if appeals are filed, several years."

I told you why he might think that in my original question. Anything to do with credit cards can be risky so he just wants to make sure its legit and safe. And no, of course he wouldn't ask the same if it were a tax refund in question.
