Gosh...there are SO many beautiful places here in the USA to honeymoon. How much do you want to spend? How far do you want to go?

This was my second marriage, and we had a small intimate wedding. My kids came down from Canada as well for the wedding, so we didn't want to be gone long for our honeymoon so that we could visit. I note your local office is St. Louis, so you might be interested (again, depends on all the above..) on a weekend getaway here:

http://www.fairwindscabins.com/

It was a secluded get-away, very private...lovely modern cabins with a "log house" feel. Wonderful fireplace, all the amenities in the kitchen. Gas fireplace, satellite TV (not that we were watching TV...), a jacuzzi/hot tub in the bathroom. The proprietor sprinkled rose petals on the floor, our bed...towards the tub. Supplied a basket of goodies for the bath, and a bottle of wine. It was a dream get-away, and very inexpensive. We were married in April, so there was no problems with a vacancy, and was the "low" season for pricing.

I'd highly recommend.

We actually went on a vacation *to* get married. In the middle of our "vacation" we were married destination wedding style. Just us, private. We went for 2 days in Naples, FL ---->Key Largo---->Key West (which we were "escorted" out of due to hurricane Rita 1 day before our wedding. :o) My officiant, photographer and myself were on the highway planning where we could meet up to salvage our ceremony :)... we all wound up in Ft Lauderdale and it wound up being more beautiful that what we planned in Key West.

Hey, Carla.....I've looked into those cabins too. Just never made it down there yet.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Give us more details about where you're starting, what areas you're interested in, and how much you want to spend (luxury vacation or camping?) and I'm sure we will all sit around drooling over your travel options. :)

Honeymoon? Who has the $$ for a honeymoon after the USCIS fees? :)

Ha ha.....I was thinking that too.

I love the city of Chicago. So much stuff to explore.

Las Vegas is nice too.

Hah, well we will be living near chicago once he gets his work permit (hopefully) and I've been there several times throughout my life ( live southern IL). I agree it is a beautiful city, and I love it!

Well, I wanted something tropical (I really wanted bahamas or something similar but not possible :( ) and he was wanting something like Las Vegas. I love camping but I'd rather save that for a weekend getaway type of thing. Thanks for the site for meramac btw ;) it will definitely get used! We would like not to spend over 2 thousand dollars but are semi-flexible. Thanks for all the replies/help btw! ;)

I was also wondering how enjoyable a cruise was? Neither of us have ever been on one.

We got a nice cabin in the Smokey Mountains and it was a great deal - many are less than $100 a night and you get an entire cabin, often a whirlpool bathtub, and sometimes an outdoor hot tub as well :) It's great if you want to be in beautiful surroundings and be very secluded for awhile, not great if you want to do lots of activities and go out to eat (wasn't much in the town near us). You can always drive to Gatlinburg in the day and do that, but if you are looking for a nice quiet honeymoon where you are holed up in a cabin to do whatever you what ( ) then it is perfect! :) This is the site for who we used (my parents have used them for years, never had problems) - http://www.townsendcabin.com/index.htm.

we haven't gone on a honeymoon yet... but since jetblue lost my husband's baggage at the airport upon his arrival :ranting: ...we now have vouchers and are considering going to puerto rico sometime soon. is it really true he can go and not need to show his passport for returning?!

otherwise we'll do that same drive up the california coast! i LOOOOVE doing that and i'd love to see his reaction to how beautiful it is.

No honeymoon for us. We could have swung it, but it made more sense for him to work out the rest of his I-94, plus we were so tired after moving here, planning the wedding, and setting up the house that the last thing we wanted to do was travel. 4000 miles in a month was enough for us.

Ohh the Smokey Mountains are so beautiful. HOWEVER we live in the Smokies so we opted for some other mountains.

My husband and I went to Colorado fo our honeymoon. We were there for 2 weeks. We went to some hot springs, stayed in some fancy hotels, and also camped. Loved it.

I really wanted to go to Italy but in the end we couldn't go of course. We both were really happy with the way our trip turned out! Have a great honeymoon. :star:

We went to the Smokey Mountains, stayed in a cabin just outside Gatlinburg, TN.

Gatlinburg itself is horrible and like a tourist trap, but our cabin was beautiful, with a grill and hottub on the porch, and a full kitchen, and an amazing view. The national park was beautiful, and if you're into hiking then it's definitely one to consider.

We had a great time, and saved a lot of money by grilling or cooking every night... think we only ate out once.

That's what my fiancee and I will be doing. Like you said, Gatlinburg is hell, but Cade's Cove and the park are beautiful. Plus, if you're into that kind of thing, Dollywood is minutes away. Lindsay wants to go for the humour (she said it, so it gets a second U) of it.

Other places:

The Florida Keys - beautiful and carribbean, but expensive

Arizona - If you can find a place near Chino Valley or Prescott, you'll love it. Driving distance to the Grand Canyon. Slow paced.

Yellowstone National Park - You must see it before you die. A beautiful place. You can stay at the Old Faithful Inn, which is AMAZING, or in nearby Jackson, Wyoming.

The husband and I had a somewhat belated honeymoon (two years late!) just last week. We took a mini-road trip from Phoenix to Santa Fe and Taos. It was great. We drove through the Petrified Forest (like being on another planet) on the way there. Santa Fe is a really pretty city and a manageable size. There are tons of galleries, lots of nice places to eat and drink, neat historical stuff (San Miguel mission and the supposed oldest house in the US), and beauteeful physical surroundings.

My husband described Taos as "upscale granola." It snowed while we were there (woo hoo!). The Taos Pueblo is fantastic but kind of a ripoff (then again, who can blame them). The Rio Grande Gorge is nearby and worth a stop for a spine tingling view from the bridge.

Oh yeah--we also went to Los Alamos for a couple of hours on the way to Taos. Now, there's a weird place. Avoid the LA Cafe. It's a ripoff, and the cook there looked feral. He did make some nice eggs, though. I wish I hadn't seen him. Anyway, there are a couple of bizarre museums in Los Alamos, one sort of propagandist ("we ended the war!") and the other folksy but interesting.

It was my first trip to that area, and I was impressed. I hope we can return and perhaps ski or something. Or maybe do some snowshoeing, as I'm sorta clumsy and would probably injure myself (and others).
