Hi All

Does anyone have any advice on this?

I've been thinking i might need like some stop-gap health insurance, say 6 months, for when i arrive in the states and before i get a job which will provide me with cover.

Any ideas??

Health insurance is relatively easy to buy in the US, it is more a case of can you afford the cost. Do a google search for the State you are going to and see which companies provide cover there.

Oh. That explains why. I think some type of insurance until you get a job would be great. I do know that Blue Cross Blue Shield offers what you are looking for. I am very sure there are others, so try a Google search and see what comes up.

Wish you the best!

ALL things work TOGETHER for GOOD!

It is quite hard for those arriving for the first time. Most of the companies I have contacted would not privately cover my husband until he has been a PR for one year. I would do a google search for "new immigrant health insurance" and try to find a company that specifically helps immigrants. For those with pre-existing conditions, my impression is that they are out of luck for a while unless they can get coverage through their SO. We haven't made the move or a choice for health insurance yet - it definitely intimidates me.

I have just purchased an annual insurance policy here in England with www.insureandgo.co.uk which covers me for upto 90 days in the USA at any one visit.

I know its not ideal but at least it is cover of some sort and it's active as soon as you arrive.

Yes, I'm sure the small print says I have to be a permanent UK resident etc. but someone sitting in a call centre in Clacton I'm sure will never know.

..... just my 2c anyway.

Cheers.

I would imagine the small print not only says that you have to be a UK resident but also says that you have to return to the UK before the 90 days are over. I think you would have a very hard time claiming any money should something happen. :(

Yeah that is definitely the case

The annual policies would be great, but the max length stay means you have to come back to UK within that time, otherwise it is not valid.

So you would be prepared to make a fraudulent claim which could result in the hospital not being paid.

Probably get deported for a felony conviction if either the insurance company or the hospital got nasty. :innocent:

Blimey...

Calm down everyone.... I was only saying I had bought some annual travel insurance that has the potential to cover me while I'm in the States. If it doesn't, well it doesn't. No big deal.

I'm actually going skiing in France for New Year so that's actually why I got it, it was only another £20 to have it annual than just for the trip.

I have no intention of making fraudulent claims.... and I would ask that some people refrain from insinuating that I would. You don't know me.

I was only chipping into the discussion..... talk about going off at the deep end.

...Oh well, at least it caused a "lively" debate.

Apologies to you DDKM for corrupting your perfectly valid post.

If you don't like the comments don't say things in a public forum like

"I'm sure the small print says I have to be a permanent UK resident etc. but someone sitting in a call centre in Clacton I'm sure will never know."

You also seem not to have noticed the :innocent: I placed after my comment.
