Food expenditures

I know it's been posted before, but I really like these pictures. I don't necessarily think these families are intended to be representative of their entire nation. I'm sure many Germans don't eat those foods, and of course I don't think every American eats so much junk. (Where did they even find people to admit to that?) What I found impressive was that the American family was relatively thin! The other thing that surprised me was that the Americans spent so much on food we generally consider to be food that poorer people eat. I mean, they spent more than twice what we spent on food (as two people) in Minneapolis, and we had a bad habit of shopping at Whole Foods and buying organic fruit etc. So maybe that lifestyle isn't as cheap as it's rumored to be.

Four people with two teenage boys = lots of calories needed.

That's true! Although there are other calorie-dense sources of food that apparently might have been even cheaper, considering how much their choices cost them.

I went grocery shopping yesterday, got the usual stuff, spent about 20% more than I did a month ago. ####### is going on? Is anyone else noticing a sudden rise in prices?

I thought things were looking a little more expensive than usual, but I can't say for sure. I've noticed increased bills for less food, but it might just be changes in the food we buy.

Yes. It's getting out of hand. We are going to Aldi's now and buying no-name stuff. Saves me a bunch of money.

We always buy generic stuff. My only 'luxury' are the frozen foods from Amy's that I like but those were selling for 5.50 each instead of the usual 3-3.50 so I didn't bother. I just looked online and I saw them on freshdirect for 3.99 so maybe I need to change groceries again.

I've definitely noticed the rise but I started noticing it a few months ago. So many things that were $1 are now $1.50(some vegetables, etc) and while it might not seem like a lot it really adds up. I used to be able to estimate the total of stuff in my shopping cart and was always within a dollar or two. Now it's always $15-20 more than I thought it would be, for the same amount.

But, the good news is, inflation is under control. I know it is because the Commerce Department done said so and they ain't never wrong!
