if it is in a sealed package shouldn't be a problem - for the record Karin und Otto I brought Leberkase back when I went on my first trip to Germany in '84 - US customs even opened my luggage(the ONLY time in over 20 years when that has happened to me) but there was no problem. I don't eat meat anymore but I have brought all kinds of spices, candy, cookies, etc. and no problems-just make sure it is sealed.

My more pressing concern at the moment is do I dare bring fresh paneer cheese on my flight from NYC -Fresno, I have 2 stopovers but will it keep fresh that long??? I wasn't able to find the fresh stuff in Fresno last time I was there so need to bring it from NYC. I would also like to bring a Junior's cheesecake but that might be tough to shlep through 2 stopovers. Think I'll just bring bagels n lox.

You should be ok, but don't try to bring in any fresh fruit. California watches that closely because of fruit flies.

Wow I have this same issue when coming from Jamaica. I want to bring dried cod fish back and always wondered if it would be a big problem. I have brought back things that I probably wasn't allowed to but I was never searched so it went ok. But I would like to bring back alot more stuff and don't want to be illegal about it. This is good to know. :dancing:

I've brought back saltfish before. Also, breadfruit (roasted in whole form) and ackee (blanched and then frozen). I told them in customs and they were fine with it.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I think you can bring some food items in ONLY IF DECLARE IT at Customs. When asked, say "it is for my own eating - personal consumption."

(I declared on the form that I had 5 pounds of pistachios in a plastic bag. The customs official asked me if it was for my own eating. I said yes and they let me through with no problems).
