I just wanted to copy and paste some things re: income requirements and sponsors from the Dpt of State WEbsite in case anyone was wondering the specifics on this!!!

"Should K-1 fiancé(e) visa applicants use the I-864 or the I-134?

Since fiancé(e)s are nonimmigrant visa applicants, they should use the I-134. They will need to submit an I-864 to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) when they adjust status to conditional immigrant in the United States after they are married.

Do the same income requirements apply to all immigrant visa applicants even if they use the I-134?

No. The 125 percent minimum income requirement, the most recent year's tax return and other requirements only apply when an I-864 is needed. Applicants using the I-134 will need to show that their sponsor's income is 100 percent of federal poverty guidelines as required under Section 212(a)(4) of the INA. Good info

Just keep in mind that A LOT of consulates will look at the I-134 as a I-864 so make sure to use the 125% above poverty level as your cutoff.

 Thanks Zee!! Oh... and what do you think about the sponsor thing? Do you still think I need to at least have a job even if it's not above 125% as long as my daddy is Lucky's sponsor making well above 125% poverty line???? I am still trying to get a job... my question is do you think it will matter whether I work PT or FT??? I am assuming FT would be safest.... even with the sponsor though??? what is your advice here Zee?? Anyone?? :help:

Thanks!!!

I read those instructions and then use the real life experience of members here. It says we don't need tax returns, but everyone said that the consulate not only asked for tax returns but in many cases, kept it. So, I've ordered tax returns. I don't know if they write the instructions just so that we won't have everything we need and they can deny it. I decided to err on the side of caution and send them everything but the kitchen sink. Then, anything they ask for, they have it. Try to find a full time job, but know that having a sponsor meets the requirements. Just don't leave any cracks for them to hold on to.

My understanding is that as long as you have a cosponsor that covers all of you, then you are fine. There are many on here who are students or freshly out of college with no income who are just fine with a cosponsor. If you get a job, great! But if not, then don't worry about it because your cosponsor should be good enough.

Oh Thank GOD!!!! I have been ever so worried about getting a job, even one that is enough $ ... in order to fulfill the guidelines so my fiance can come!!!! I really didn't think the co sponsor would be legit enough all by himself since he is not the one marrying... :) I sure hope you are right!!!! Have you conversed with anyone on VJ or elsewhere that has gone through the Accra Consolute with no income but with a Co Sponsor making high salary??? My father is close to Lucky too so that helps!!! And he makes very good $ so that is wonderful!!! I do hope you are right!!!!!

By the way....... If I can be ASSURED that I don't need to have a job and that my father acting as co-sponsor is legit enough, then I would most likely go to GHANA ASAP!!! Why wait here for him unless I need to make a living in order for him to come to me??!! hmmmm..... I wish there was a way I could find a straight answer and just KNOW I would be fine not working!!!!!

Unfortunately there are no assurances.

The point of the I-134 is to ensure that the beneficiary does not become a public charge. While your father may be ready and willing to support him no questions asked, the government does not know this and the fact that you are not working *may* work against you. I haven't read of someone in a situation similar to yours going through Accra.

In this thread there is some good insight. Your situation may be different but, from my understanding, the fact that they are going through the London embassy may mean that they are scrutinized less than those of us going through higher fraud consulates.

Remember, we are dealing with Ghana and they are a headache from the time your petition gets to the consulate until you walk out with your visa. You do not want to give them any reason to deny you the visa after all the time and effort you put into it.

Just my $0.02.

Yes, you have a good point (again)!!!!

I will just stay here and work. I had an interview today and am at this moment waiting to hear from the interviewer on whether or not I got the job!!!! I hope I did!! If so, I might as well just stay safe and stay here and work until my Boo can be with me on my soil!!! BUT... Maybe I can go with him to ghana at the interview time... that would surely fulfill "proof" of us being together in ghana more than one time. ;)
