Why would USCIS transfer our case to the CA Service Center?

Hello,

My wife entered on a K1 visa from Thailand. We live and applied for AOS (I-485) in New York which required us to send our paperwork to Chicago.

We applied on October 1st, 2007 and received notice for the biometric appointment by the end of October. An officer there said she would get an interview in a week or two but it never happened. Some time afterward we had to provide supporting evidence on a tax form which we sent to the Missouri Center. And today we received a notice that our case had been transferred to the California service center for processing (full text below).

We're wondering what this means. Is this a bad sign or just part of the process?

We're also not sure if it's significant that she had overstayed her visa five years ago and her point of exit was California after a brief vacation, even though she had lived in NY the whole time she was here. Is it a coincidence that the case was transferred there?

CSC has been processing the AOS appls for quite a while. Hopefully, you will be approved and won't have to go to an interview. Otherwise CSC will complete their part and schedule the interview with your local USCIS office. Good luck

It means that it is most likely you will not have to attend an interview
