Has anyone here had AP name checks BEFORE being forwarded to Cairo for their interview? We are stuck in a name check thing. My SO's name had sth with it on the initial security screening they do before forwarding the petition. (which in most cases is a day or two)....We however are in that infamous AP that I thought occured AFTER the interview....but thats NOT the case..its happening to us NOW...THEN...after the interview IF cairo wants to run MORE..they can??? Whats THAT all about? Anyone have quick visa AFTER AP at the pre consulate stage?? This is mad...crazy...we waited almost 6 months for NOA2....why duplicate the process?? Makes no sense to me. Especially since NVC wont deny the visa...and insist that its up to Cairo....so why not wait for Cairo to request it? Or is AP at the discretion of Cairo..and since he had that name hit issue (so to speak) they want it cleared up in case Cairo wont request it??? Im sooooooo nervous, scared and just not sure I can handle the huge wait some of you ahve been in....please..help.........

At USCIS (Homeland Security Department) stage, currently, NCIC, IBIS and NIIS database checks are done, with the option, if warranted, to do additional database checks.

At National Visa Center (State Department) stage, a separate independent NCIC database check is done by in-house FBI staff in connection with information supplied in the DS-230. Based on results, NVC has the option to request full fingerprints to be taken at post. NVC checks can usually be completed in 24 hours. In some limited cases involving high-risk visa applicants meeting certain specific criteria, NVC also does Security Advisory Opinions (SOAs) before sending the file to Consular Post.

At Consular stage, there are three (3) Visa Security name checks done: CONDOR, MANTIS AND MORE ANOTHER NCIC (via CLASS)

[Consulate has option, if warranted, to run full gamut of checks, such as CCD (past visa applications & results), TIPOFF (DOS Bureau of Intelligence), NAILS (Nat'l Automated Immigration Lookout System), TECS II (Treasury Dept. database), TSC & TTIC (DOS Terrorist screening)].

CONDOR refers to a check done mostly of information supplied on Form DS-157, and focuses on visa applicants with a potential terrorist, firearms or weapons background. CONDOR in most cases should be completed in 90 days or less. If not, contact the VO Public Inquiry line at Tel: 202-663-1225 or usvisa@state.gov

MANTIS refers to when potentially sensitive technologies might be used by the visa applicant in her visit to the U.S. If the visa applicant might employ a "critical-fields" technology in the U.S. which could have a "dual-use" such military or national security application, this check will be done to screen out a high-risk applicant. Most MANTIS checks can be done in 30 days. If not, contact the SAO Problem Resolution Unit at saoinquiries@state.gov.

NCIC (via CLASS) refers to the name check procedure done by the Consulate with the NCIC criminal database at FBI. This procedure screens visa applicants by name to see if there is a "hit" with the criminal database: that is, a person in the criminal database has the same or very similar name to the visa applicant.

Sorry to hear you got stuck!

Remember in the early days of that HUGE wait at VSC when they told me we were in AP? It could have been the beginning of that backlog, but then again there weren't THAT many April filers who got tangled up in that mess. But it wasn't at the NVC level.

Maybe you should ask Nagiskhaw (sp), I think she was stuck at NVC for a while.

not to freak you out but I believe the dipsticks have been stuck in this place for over a year ... I'm sure that is so rare though and also i think once you get to cario you will still be a step 1 regardless of how long they take. Im really sorry its delayed.. it hasn't been too long though so don't get too worried. Also at this point I really think delays have to do with name checks not like in Cairo.

Actually I believe Dip STicks is stuck at the service center level. Yasi and a few others got stuck at NVC. Some people started tracking going into AR at NVC and it was found to be overall - very insignificant. Some members though, did not fare so well, although it is rare.

You can get stuck at any leg of this process.

I feel we've been stuck in this process since day ONE. I see by the numbers MOST wait a few days to 2 weeks..to be sent..then the few up to a month....im sure its RARE to be much longer than that..Im just scared...I have major family issues here and he is sooo needed home. (Mom alzheimers..dad with picks disease dementia with less than an expected life expectancy of 5 years now and i do this alone..just to much going back and forth, waiting, and taking care of two...)

This makes no sense. Per the above, it seems like the DS-230 is what kicks this off but they are doing the I129F which doesn't involve the DS-230 (to the best of my knowledge), so they shouldn't have a data base check at this point.

The ONLY thing per the above this could be is that this is a high risk visa applicant meeting certain specific criteria. I guess the question would be what is this Security Advisory Opinion and how long does that take?

Also, I know you say you don't think you can handle the long AP's that we all are going through but lemme tell you I am a wimp to end all wimps and if I can get through this freakin' hell so can you. Just taking it one day at a time, you know? Don't look forward to what COULD happen, just stick within the moment. I know it's harder said than done but have a little faith in yourself and what God thinks you can handle. Plus we're all here for you for support. (F)

Dont laugh....a week? Its not the time...its the 6 months before at vermont...combined with the unknown..and seeing others here that get "stuck" is making me panic....I just found out last night about my father...(official diagnosis) so Im in a panic as I see everyone else being sent within 2 days..and the AP ####### scares me...so many seem to get stuck in it..I just imagine 6 months in vermont, 6 months nvc...interview....6-12 months AP AGAIN

I can't imagine having AP again..and the reps were adement that its sent to cairo then its up to them to deny...............why say it THAT way?

I have to comment on your situation with your parents. I can sympathize and it is a lot of work I'm sure, but...............I would really try not to look forward to your fiance helping out at all. Heck maybe he will you know? Maybe he'll be the knight in shining armor who helps you out bunches with them, etc. but seriously if that is what you are hoping for I would try to rely on yourself and others instead at the present time. Truth be told what if it takes a good year from now for him to get here? All that stress won't do you any good and then what if once he's here he has adjustment issues, as we've all seen happen on this board and he ends up being more of a burden to you (you now have someone else to cook and clean for, etc.) than a help?

I hope it's not the case but it does happen...we've seen it.

I hear you... good advice...I called my youngest son today...asking if he'd be willing to come help. I already know my SO is a "helper". He does dishes for his mom without even being asked when she is just resting...He never offers this information..but wil say..i need to do the dishes..I'll say..is mom sick? No, he says..it was a long day for her..she's resting...I ask...ohh, she asked you to do this..he says..no...I just do it. (How many Mena men cook ,clean, do dishes and do so much around home.) Maybe it changes...but he's a helper by nature... but I agree...I wasn't meaning helping in a physical way..but more emotional and support...ohhh...face it...IM JUST IMPATIENT TO HAVE HIM HERE.... if I have to be honest...just like everyone else here...
