Anyone who knows me knows I am 'kitchen challenged' I can cook if I really wanted to, but I guess the desire's never really been there. As any good Italian-heritage person, I can cook Italian food (my grandmother's recipes), but I don't often eat Italian, so I hadly make it. I can bake a mean cheesecake that can rival Junior's, but still...everyday cooking? Not so much. Oh! I make a mean French toast :P

I once baked a Tday turkey at 200 degrees for like 6 hours until I noticed that I read the directions wrong. I only noticed cos someone asked me 'how come I don't smell turkey?'

I once served heat and serve rolls which 'heated' in an oven that was previously used yet shut off (it was still warm) I didn't realize that they weren't cone til I bit into it.

Anyways, you get the jist....I do not cook regularly.

Last night, I cooked a meat loaf for my parents...and my dad, who is an amateur gourmet cook (hobby) said 'I couldn't have done it better myself'

GO ME!

I told D and he was like 'what? You cooked????'

baby steps!!!!! I'm making progress!!!

heh, I think that's what's happening. I said that to D last night and he was all 'but why didn't you cook while you were here?' and I was all 'hey, what about that chicken I made once?'

some other Lisa cooking disasters:

Oh...I forgot another disaster....once I had a diner party, and by the time the guests got there, I only made the salad. Everyone gave up and left eventually without eating.

And my x and I had a rule: whoever got home first made dinner. So I used to hide my car across the street from our complex, to wait for him to get home first.

and that Tday turkey that I had to cook? All the food was mad eby my mom, and snuck out of her house the night before Tday. All i had to do was cook the turkey. I misread the 'turkey is cooked when it is 150 degrees' to 'cook the turkey at 150'...I looked at my oven, and the lowest was 200 degrees. I put it in saying to myself 'better watch I don't burn this'

By the time I realized, ppl were almost coming...so I fig'd mathematically, it'd even out if i put the Turkey to 600. So that's what I did. After much stalling, my dad was all 'let's eat' so I took the turkey out and was fully prepared to serve it in whatever state it was in. Turns out, it wasn't bad at all!

Anyways, maybe I'm in 'my man is coming' nesting mode! yayyyyyyyyy

I have acrylic nails too. I keep mine pretty long- I've always had long nails so I am used to them.

I do have a nail question for you Lisa- Back in Canada, I was getting acrylic with a gel on top. They would air brush on the white and pink before the gel top coat. The gel they used was in a little tub, it was brushed on and then I went under the UV to set it. It was always rock hard when I left.

Here- they polish on the pink and white and the gel they use is in a nail polish bottle. I always found it would crack. Also- I find my nails take forever to dry- several hours. I stay under the UV table for a long time and bring my own Rapid Dry top coat. They started using a regular polish top coat instead of the gel, It doesn't crack but I do have to make sure I wear a few pairs of gloves when I take off my toe polish.

I tried finding the real gel I like at the Beauty Supplier I go to but they didn't have it. I can try to look in other places if I know someone carries it- the girl who does my nails here has no idea what I am talking about when I say "real gel"

Any idea or advice?
