I am sure most of this is true and factual. How often do things like that happen here? Islam, and true followers of pure Islam, does not teach to do these things.

Islam teaches: That unmarried girls are escorted by close family members and do not spend time alone with men other than their husbands. Islam does NOT teach that they be hurt for situations that happen, as was mentioned below, for something outside of their control. Men have taken the teaching, of chastity, and turned it into a way that Islam did not intend

Islam does NOT teach mutilation of women. This is another law that was created by men

Islam does NOT teach "say divorce 3 times" then you are divorced. Some countries have made it law. Islam teaches that you state your intention for divorce, and that 3 months are required, where you are responsible for your wife until the time is up (much like the 90 day waiting period right here in Texas). If the couple cannot reconcile within the 3 months, then the divorce is granted. This may happen twice. Once the intention of divorce is stated the third time, the couple cannot reconcile. They can get back together only after the woman has remarried, then divorced her husband of the second marriage.

Do NOT make me, and I can, will, and have time, list wrongs that are done by "Christians" that have nothing to do with the Christian way. There is a difference between true Christianity and how Christians act and there is a difference between Islam and how Muslims act. Please try to remember that and please try to learn the difference before summarizing headlines without knowing what Islam teaches and how a Muslim is supposed to act or conduct him or herself.

This is scary (from the posted link):
  • A Muslim man in Iran cut off his 7-year-old daughter’s head because he suspected she had been raped by her uncle?
  • Many little Muslim girls have their genitals cut out – without anesthesia – in order to destroy their sexuality and make them “pure”?
  • Daughter and wife beating are routine in the Muslim world. Over 90 percent of Pakistani wives, for instance, have been struck, beaten, or abused sexually – for offenses like cooking an unsatisfactory meal, or for failing to give birth to a male child?
  • In Iran the legal age for marriage is nine years old, and in an Afghan refugee camp virtually all the girls over second grade were married?
  • Women who are raped in Muslim countries often end up being punished while the rapist gets off free?
  • All a man has to do to divorce his wife is say, “I divorce you” three times – and then she is a single woman without support and without her children, who are usually taken by the father?
Just how true are these facts?

totally agreement sister..you are correct..i was just follow up on the orginal topic..but yes, there are allot of men in all countries, that treat women like objects and possessions

aye. i don't think much will get done to improve things until the full scope and context of this issue is recognized though. half-assed blaming certain groups of people here and there isn't going to do any good.

Thank you, I concur

I just wanted to shed light on this subject. It made me think of the girl that was recently killed in canada.

I am muslim myself, and i love being muslim IN THE US. Because i can practice my faith correctly without the pressure of culture. And i personally used to always deny these cruel occurences, but it was because I was uneducated. this is real. And We the muslim woman have to make a stand.

being a male Muslim....i think the behavior in some Muslim countries towards women is criminal and certainly, not sanctioned by Allah...but a control mechanism for crude and cruel people

I don't claim to have all knowledge about any religion. I also don't go to egyptsearch to get all of my religious questions answered. I take courses at a local islamic center in Boston, I take online courses, I read various books, I run questions off of various people, the smallest group being egyptsearch, but that is neither here nor there. My post here is to ask this person some questions about what she posted, not to try to show anyone that I am knowledgeable about Islam since I probably only know a few pebbles of sand worth of what there is to know. :)

Muslim men, however, are not easily fooled. They know that women's liberation movement will be their undoing and they are not going to let it happen.

Go Muslim Man!

The Quran, I believe, says that it applies equally to men and women. But, only men are allowed to interpret it, so guess who gets short shrift? Dressing modestly--for women the burhka (sorry for the spelling), for men--whatever. Put anybody in charge of anything and their personal beliefs/agendas will come out.

there's been a history of female islamic scholarship going back to the 8th century. and for the majority of muslims, a uniquely regional item of clothing like burkas are as foreign to them as they are to midwest america. men are also required to adhere to modesty in their manner of dress as well.

I started this thread, not to bring on a religeous debate, Islam is a beautiful religeon, and its guidance has helped me in the most trying times of life. And it does not need to be debated that alot (not all) of muslims that come to the states accomplish wonderful things. And I dont believe that this does happen very often in the US. And thereason for that is they will spend the rest of their lives in prison, in these other countries they would not get much time 6 months maybe.

But this is not a question or debate about islam, this is about the governments of these islamic countries, and how woman are treated if they are raped or molested etc.

So your way of making a stand as a muslim woman who loves being muslim is to publish articles from a site such as frontpagemag which is blatantly anti-muslim on this Off Topic forum which is known to have members who love to bash mulsims in general?

1) How exactly is this act going to help the ummah?

2) Do you really think that cultural influences do not exist in a country that is a melting pot of various cultures?

You do know that circumcision is not condoned in Islam and that it is practiced by people of all faiths in Egypt and other parts of the world right?

You do know that disgusting and cruel acts happen in all kinds of cultures by people who are of all kinds of different faiths, right?

Something doesn't add up here and I would just like some clarification. Thanks!

Naturally being muslim, and being from egypt, I will take more of an interest in a topic that hits home with me. Yes there is alot of bad things that happen in every religeon and culture, we all know that, but I am talking about my heritage.Let me tell you something, my sister was molested for nine years by my cousin, of whom which we called him our uncle out of respect (because he is so much older than us), and you know what all of the woman in my family told her, dont say a word, their biggest concerne was did he put himself inside you, because that would make her not bleed dutring her wedding night. So dont sit here and get mad at for posting this, this needs to be posted, people need to know, it sounds like you want this to continue to be a dirty little secret. I LOVE being muslim, but hate these idiots that somehow turne it around into this disgusting thing. So dont get mad at me, get mad at the people who you may see treating your mother sister aunt or cousin badly.

She can always go to the police and have him charged. The statute of limitations is pretty big I think......last I checked it's over 10 years but I could be mistaken. Then he'd be a registered sex offender and perhaps have his kids taken away from him. At the very least his wife would then know about it and be able to take action so that he doesn't rape his daughters. (If he hasn't already raped them.)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
