Is this possible or did I miss something. I'm new here, filed in end of July, recieved NOA1 Aug 8, NOA2 Dec 8. instructions on it said approved sent to consulate. No consulate listed on form, so I called USCIS, they said it went directly to consulate and not NVC. anyone else ever hear of this? Person on phone said some do not need to go there and go directly to consulate of country where fiance is( this case russia) it does not sound like path that i have been reading here? thoughts????

Call the Dept. of State (DOS) as they know what they're talking about. I've never heard of a petiton bypassing NVC since that's where the consulate specific case #s are assigned.

DOS 202- 663- 1225 option 1, then option 0

Give them your EAC/WAC # and they can tell you if it has been processed through NVC.

This is standard wording, it has to go to NVC to be assigned a case number, the letter says "Sent to Consulate" because that is what happens eventually after it leaves NVC, they just neglect to say "Through NVC".

It takes a few weeks from NOA2 to NVC, so if you do call NVC, their stock answer is "We have not received it yet".

I reacted the same way when i read that info. But the truth is that the case will be forwarded to the Nation Visa Center. It took a week for the NVC to forward the the embassy. Good Luck.

Claudeth's approval NOA specifically states the petition was sent to the NVC in Portsmouth and also states that the NVC will notify the petitioner when the case numbe has been assigned and the packet forwarded to the embassy for processing.

My application also had approved on Dec. 07 and I received NOA2 letter today. It also says:

"The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate. .... "

So once the application arrives at NVC and is forwarded to consulate, will I get another notification letter (e-mail?) with a case number? or should I call them to check the case number?

Thank you,

You should get a letter with your new case number, but you can can also call the NVC, talk to an operator and get your case number as well.

It won't skip NVC. They will assign a Case Number to your petition and forward it to the Consulate.

Happened to us too, though. Daniel called the USCIS and the lady told him that K1 petitions do not go to NVC, they are sent to the Consulates directly. Daniel then called the NVC just to be sure and the lady he spoke to told him that they do come to NVC. In fact, she used to work for the department at the NVC dealing with K1 petitions and was very helpful and answered all his questions patiently.

So much for the (Mis)Informed Operators ;)

Just to let everyone know, i called again to the USCIS today and they again told me that some go directly to consulate. two different people telling me same thing. when i arrive at the mail box, there was a letter from NVC telling me it was off to consulate, and issuing us our MOS#. I really like this site, and as soon as I can catch up, I will fill in our history and story. thanks for all the pointers. I hope we are close to getting this precious visa.

I bet if you called the NVC, they'd let you know that they have received and forwarded it, hence the reason for sending you a letter. They all funnel through the NVC, but for most it's a trivially short period of time.

No worries, the visa isn't TOO far into the future for you, I am sure..
