On the k3 document checklist that my husband got in packets it asks for a birth certificate and that the certificate must state the names, date and place of birth of both parents but my husband's birth certificate doesnt have that. It only has their names and nationality. There is not even a section on the certificate where it ask for the birthdate of his parents. My husband registered his birth only 2 years ago so this is not a certificate made at time of birth but je registered it as an adult. it is a certified copy of entry in the register of births. signed by the registrar. Should I be worried about there birthdates not being on it? Does anyone have experience with this?

My husband also did not get his until about a year before his interview so after he was already an adult. His did have his parents' birthplaces (if I remember correctly). Make sure you get the birth cert that they make in Accra. It is the size of a regular piece of paper, it is laminated, and kinda pink looking.

As of a few months ago they actually changed the birth certificates in Ghana. My finace had to go and get a new one in order to get his passport because the old ones were not recognized anymore. I want to say that they have more info on them now.

I will ask him more details about it when I talk to him tonight.

I'll ask my fiance about this tonight. I know that it took him 2-3 weeks to get his birth certificate so even if your husband needs to get a new one it should not be too much trouble.

OK, so I talked to my fiance.

He says that on the new birth certificate that he has there is no date of birth for his parents on it. The new birth certificates now have a seal on them and my fiance needed to get a new one in order to get his passport (not sure if your husband found his but if not, he is going to need a new birth certificate).

All your husband has to do is go to the office where they issue birth certificates and ask for a birth certificate extract because he already has one. It should take about 2 weeks.

Hope this helps.

Bassi got his birth certificate in two weeks and it doesn't have his parent's birth dates on it either. It is made up of different colors on it, not just pink.

Yeah he described it to afenaba and he said it was the right one. We are trying to follow the embassy's guidlines carefully but it seems their guidlines are off. Good think we have each other's experience to help us get through it.

My wife's birth certificate had her parents name on it but did not have their dates of birth. It is not necessary to have their dates of birth on the birth certificate. He needs to get the birth certificate in Accra. They will put a seal on the certificate; that is all the embassy needs for authentication. The embassy is very aware of the kind of birth certificate we have in Ghana so dont worry
