Chicago Lockbox: RETURN TO SENDER?

As we all know, below in italics are the instructions for filing the I-130, complete with a new address to mail it to for your state. Paul and I mailed our application package on Tuesday, and I am seeing here on the USPS tracking website that USPS is sending our package back to us because the "address was vacant"?? WHAT? We sent it to the exact "Chicago lockbox" we were supposed to for Ohio. Has this happened to anyone else? How come USPS thinks this address does not exist?

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is revising the locations for filing Form I-130 that are currently listed in the form's instructions posted on this website. Until new instructions are posted, the following information applies:

Effective December 3, 2007, all petitioners filing stand-alone Form I-130 are encouraged to submit their petitions to the Chicago Lockbox instead of a USCIS Service Center. I-130 petitions filed with the Chicago Lockbox will be routed to, and adjudicated at, the appropriate USCIS Service Center. This routing will be based on the petitioner's place of residence in the United States.

Petitioners who reside in AK, AZ, CA, CO, Guam, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MS, MT, Nebraska, NV, ND, OH, OR, SD, UT, WA, WI, or WY are encouraged to file their stand-alone Form I-130s with the Lockbox using the following address:

USCIS

P.O. Box 804625

Chicago, IL 60680-1029

Dear lord, we haven't even been able to file yet and we're already running into bizarro problems! Who can explain this?

Very strange indeed. Many I-130 petitions are sent back to Chicago lockbox that includes the previous application dating back to August 30and July 30 from CSC and VSC respectively. The address must exist and you must call USPS say this might be a new lockbox. Possibly you are one of the earliest appicant. I am sure they will sort out by the time you call them. Anyway you might have a typo error in the parcel. wait until it is returned and you didnot make any mistake.

When the package gets back, double check the address, and if it's correct, just send it to the old Califoria service center address and let them forward it.

I mailed my AOS, EAD and AP application to this address this week:

USCIS

PO Box 805887

Chicago, Illinois

60680-4120

This is the correct address as specified on the I-485 and I too got "Return to sender" on the USPS tracking site. I rechecked the address with the USCIS on the phone today and they verified it.

Something weird is going on at USPS.

I'm going to wait for the package to come back to me (hopefully VERY quickly) then I'm going to send it by UPS.

UPS doesn't deliver to PO boxes.

FYI, I sent my I-130 to the other PO Box in Chicago and it was received last Saturday so at least one of the addresses is correct.

Doesn't that make you wanna hurl!? What on earth is going on? You'd think the post office would know how to acknowledge the existence of certain post office boxes and use them correctly.

That one person ulfie already said "UPS doesn't deliver to PO boxes." Is this true? When (and if! ) Paulie recieves our package back I would rather not send it through the bumbling, incompetent post office again. I'd pay more to make sure a PRIVATE company does it, and does it right. Is it possible to send it to one of those Lockboxes using something other than USPS, or do I have to march to Chicago and deliver it myself?

'Tis true, only the USPS will express mail to a PO Box, the other carriers, UPS, FedEx, etc will only overnight to a street address.

Only the USPS can deliver through PO Boxes. Until this is straightened out, I think the best solutions are to either mail to the other lockbox address which has been confirmed as working, or mail to the old CSC address and let them forward it.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the current Chicago lockbox address. :(

We sent our I-130 yesterday via USPS Express Mail. The USPS tracker says it was delivered this morning.

I'd reccommend that service - it has next day delivery and automatically insured to $100. :)

Thanks for your response! You're having better luck starting out than we are! :star: Now, just to be sure, out of the two Chicago Lockboxes, did you send it to this one:

USCIS

P.O. Box 804625

Chicago, IL 60680-1029

or to this one:

USCIS

P.O. Box 804616

Chicago, IL 60680-1029

The first one is the Box designated for, among other states, residents of Ohio, and the second Box is for New Jersey so I assume you mailed it to that second one, right?

PO Box 804825 is the one that we tried to send it to last week that apparently doesn't exist. Has anyone, ANYONE here managed to get their form successfully mailed to that Box number yet?

PS- Stilll haven't gotten precious package returned to us yet by post. Prayin' to the Lo' he gets it tomorrow.

This sounds like a problem w/ the carrier...not USCIS. Did you send w/ USPS, or UPS? The courier services like UPS or FedEx do not deliver to PO Boxes, but the US Postal Service (USPS) should deliver it. You should probably call USPS at their service number to see what is behind the "Address vacant" reason.

Here's another thread about someone who had their package returned because of this same reason.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...p;#entry1416775

They haven't posted an update, so I don't know what explanation or course of action they came up with....but as most people here, we mailed ours w/ USPS and it was delivered w/out any problems.

Good luck!

If you sent it to Box 824825 that is not the correct box for either lockbox.
