Please help me decide what to do.

I am trying to get the paperwork together to AOS for my husband that is here on K3 visa. He has only been here a month. He had a full medical done in September 2007.

Well I mailed a copy of his immunizations that he had done in Lagos, Nigeria to the Civil Surgeon in Texas Dr. L.E. Arnold that will transfer his immunizations to a I-693A for $10.00.

Now they are telling me that he needs a Chicken Pox Vaccine (proof that he had one) before they can fill the I-693A out.

Is this really necessary? If he really needed that vaccine wouldn't they have given it to him at the medical?

The vaccine costs $65.00 here at the health dept. I am ready to send off the paperwork this was the only thing I was waiting for and now this. I am so tired it is always something

Is there someone out there that can tell me what to do. I feel like just sending his immunization record without the transfer or should I wait and get the chicken pox vaccine? I didn't know you HAD to have that one.

Please tell me what to do.

Thanks.

K-Visas are NON-Immigrant and NON-Immigrant visitors to the USA do not need vaccinations, so it would not be done for the visa medical. This is why the supplement is needed for AOS.

Proper vaccinations for age group are needed.

See about getting a titer test to test and see if already immune to the chicken pox, if had chicken pox when young then should have the immunity in system and titer test will prove this.

You do not want to get chicken pox as an adult, it is called the shingles and it is much more serious than the pox when young.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

as a k-visa holder you dont need to have all the necessary vaccinations at the time of your visa medical, but you have to have those by the time you want to file for aos!!

persons betweeen 18 and 64 years need:

TD (adult fromulation tetanus and diphtheria toxoids)

MMR (combined measels, mumps rubella vaccine) if born after 1956

Varicella (chicken pox)

so you definitely need the chicken pox vaccine for you vaccination history to be complete!

get that done, send the information to Dr. Arnold and she will then transfer all the vaccinations to the I-693A.

im pretty sure that youll get an rfe if you send then documents with an incomplete vacc history!

well I have been in the same situation in my case they told me I need one more vaccination of MMR and Varicella , I just have one of each one in my country but it seems to be that you need two shots. Anyways we went to the Public Health Center of Madison and I got the vaccinations I needed for free so maybe you can try to look for the Public Healt center in you area.

My husband had the same problem, he needed the last MMR and Varicella. I argued about this, because he had chicken pox about 10 years ago. The doctor said he should then get the titer, which we paid the doctor to do the titer, it was 70 dollars. He went to the Health Dept. to get the last MMR(as they were much cheaper then the doctor), while he was there, he told them about having chicken pox before and she just signed off on his vaccination card that he had it before. Oh well we had already paid the doctor for the titer. You might want to see if the Health Dept. will sign off on his vaccination card for having chicken pox before, instead of paying for anything. We are going to be so happy when this is over, it seems to be never ending. I wish you the best Ara.

Thanks to all of you that replied you guys really are great. We went to the health dept. this morning and he went ahead and got the chicken pox vaccine after really debating over this I decided it was probably for the best seeing as he never had chicken pox before and I heard from many people that as an adult it is really bad so I faxed the document to the civil surgeon and they said they would mail out the I-693A today. It really wasn't that hard and everything worked out for the best. Thanks again.
