Tracy, the room sounds cute. We are going with a Classic Winnie the Pooh theme, mostly for hubby (he ADORES Pooh). I was online yesterday looking at baby gear and kept noticing all these other nursery themes I like so much better than Pooh ... I was a little sad at first, wishing I could decorate the room differently, but then gave myself a reality check and reminded myself that it is really important that hubby is involved and feels that he has input too, so really, the Pooh theme is a good idea. But I love seeing/hearing what others are doing, so I can live vicariously through them! LOL

Hey ladies (and guys), are there any particular products / brands that you recommend? My co-workers have asked me to register for baby stuff and I was overwhelmed last night, looking at the options for so many things. Any items that you would say are "must haves"? Any brands that are especially good? Thanks!

the things i am going to list are things that i have on my registry that i know from taking care of babies have worked for me and i think are great....

you will need a Boppy...it is great for either breastfeeding or just putting the baby on to feed a bottle too....you should also put down a couple extra covers....

diapers....it is your choice....Huggies or Pampers have always worked...huggies tends to be a bit cheaper...and for wipes i would go with huggies the wipes tend to be a bit larger....

bottles....again your choice...Avent has always worked for me...they can leak sometimes..which is a pain....for me i am going to go with playtex and the drop in liners...

stroller....what do you want do you want a travel system??? they i feel are great to have because all you have to do is take the car seat out and put it onto the stroller....the stroller system i am getting has 3 wheels vs the 4 wheels so it is easier to go over grass and gravel and just easier to push....

a swing will be a life saver that i would say is a must have!!! as well as a activity mat....those two things are great!!!

Fisher-price products you really can't go wrong with....

hope that helps a little

oh i also wanted to add about the diaper pail....i HATED the diaper genie and the refils....and i didn't want to pay extra for the refils they can be pricey so i went with Baby Trend New Diaper Champ....you only need to use regular trash bags!!

I heard that Baby Trend New Diaper Champ works great for the first few months but then after that it doesn't contain the order and stinks up the room. Is this true Shauna?

We never had a swing or an activity mat...not necesarily must haves but it's always good so baby is busy for a while. I would suggest buying a swing once baby is there cause then you see whether you'll have one of those clingy babes, that you just cannot put down, no matter what or one of those easy going ones that will lay in it's cradle for an hour or so, just looking at the mobile.

We have a general animal theme...not specific to jungle or forest or desert...just a bunch of animals. That's really because I am such an animal freak. I would live in zoo, if I could!

I want my little boy to love animals like I do. Luis couldn't care less

aaww that sounds sssoo cute....i love the animal/tropical theme....i love the fisher price rainforest products!

We just got our 12-week-old boy the FP Rain Forest Take-Along Swing. He loves it and we can take it with us when we visit friends.

Oh, and the Stridor is gone - we just cancelled the ENT appointments.

Very Nice!! Animals are great. Love IT...

We are going for a lavender rain forest. I saw a home improvement show were they go to a flee market and then come back to decorate a room. They did a little girls room with a purple rainforst and I loved it. My mother bought me the monkey crib sheet set. I am going to take an old lamp and make it into a tree. I can't wait for spring break so I can start to decorate. I have thought about those wonderful wall art clings too.

Those of you with C-Sections: how did you manage the pain? What kind of drugs did they give you and did they work?

How long did you stay in the hospital? was your baby in the nursery or with you at all times?

So with a C-section you will stay in the hospital a little longer for recover.

Thanks Yassmine for making me feel a little better about a C-section.

No problem Belwin :)

I was given IV morphine for the first 24 hours and then Norco tablets for the rest of my stay. I was also given a scrip for Motrin and Norco to take home and Ive been on them since I came home. I had alot of trouble laying on my side because of pain, so Ive been on the pain medication longer than I expected. But its gradually getting better and I dont have to take it as often.

I gave birth on a Monday at lunchtime and I was released the following Thursday at about lunchtime.

I kept the baby in the room with me almost all day, he only left for checkups and whatnot. At night he stayed in the nursery and was brought to me to breastfeed whenever the nurses saw him giving feeding cues. Personally, having the nurses take care of him during the night was VERY helpful to me and made a huge difference in the amount of rest of I got. More rest helped me feel better physically and emotionally.

Thanks Yassmine  I am just trying to prepare myself for a C-section. I will have an Ultra sound at 37 weeks to find out the vertic. Was your C-section planned a couple weeks before your due date? My doctor told me to be prepaired if we had to go this route it could a week or 2 before my due date.

Is anybody else having an ultra sound this late?

We have the rainforest Bouncer and the jumperoo. I really like the Fisher Price Rainforest Line. It's cute but we don't have too many swings, highchairs etc only a bouncy and the jumpy, that's all and Adam looooved both of them.

i have the jumperoo on my registry....i saw it at the store and thought that is was SSSOO cute!!!! does it take up a lot of space???

My niece had one and I think it took up a lot of space. It depends if you live in a big house I would say.

We also kind of have an animal theme for Kavi's room..though he doesn't spend much time in there yet! hehe He is in our room every night. He goes back and forth between sleeping in his stroller(inclined so it helps him not spit up after eating) and his pack n play bassinet. Sometimes he has time in his crib. We have the rainforest crib waterfall soother. I liked other rainforest things but I didn't want to spend the money, I got some other stuff that was cute too and also jungle-ish. So his room is mix and match animals..mostly jungle, some safari, some rainforest, and some random. We used a lot of colors too. We got lots of stuff from IKEA. Such cute stuff at low prices. I am a bargain shopper. ;)

Here are some nursery pictures:

Hehehe .... at my 18 week ultrasound, my baby didn't move at all, just lay there chillin'. Of course, when we went to the doctor's appt. right after, baby was moving all over the place!

New Orleans Bound, I am curious .... why don't they tell you the gender of the baby at the ultrasound? Is that a Canadian thing or just specific to Nova Scotia?

No Autumnchik, It's just specific to Nova Scotia. The only time you might get told the sex is when you become a high risk pregnancy usually towards the end of the pregnancy. When my friend was pregnant 2 years ago with her little boy, she started leaking amoniotic fluid around month 7, and she had to go for frequent checks. She was able to find out than that she was having a boy but otherwise they don't tell you. One of my friends said that the technicians cannot tell you. Something about them telling you is against the law. Doesn't matter how much to beg and plead.

With all my planning to get home my husband and I decided to plan an appointment with an OBGYN in New Orleans. I've been sitting here in Nova Scotia with an approved visa for months but nothing in hand. If all pans out, I should have a visa soon and than maybe we'll know the sex. It's hard planning anything when you don't know the sex. My husband and I have to go shopping for everything when I return home. The only thing we have right now is a crib.

Married August 21 2004 in Nova Scotia!

October 19/04 sent I-130.

April 17/08 finally arrive back in New Orleans after 3 years and 8 months.

May 19/08 Perm Resident Card arrives.

I forgot to write before that I have the diaper champ(I think the first style not the newest one), and so far it has been great. His diapers are still small so it might get more stinky as he gets older and has bigger poops, haha. But right now I love it. We don't smell anything and we don't even have an air freshener in it yet. I found it at Big Lots for $18. Also for those looking to save money, check things like Craigslist in your area for new baby products, sometimes people never use something they got and want to sell it.

Autumnchik-I think it was you that just asked about what to have on the registry. I also got a boppy(at walmart they make an imitation that's a little cheaper, that's what I got) and it has been very useful. For basic necessities, I wrote a list of things we have used on here a few pages back if you want to check it out. It didn't include certain items that you might want but it's just the basics.

So I thought it was standard practice to be scheduled for an ultrasound at 37 weeks, but my doctor made no mention of this yesterday. She was very confident of the the position of the baby, and my pregnancy is low-risk...should I not expect another u/s?
