Welcome to baby corner Pri....

Adam is so cute. Love the cake pic..

Shauna wow that stinks with sleepless nights. I hope it never gets that way for me. I would never have enough energy to work. I can't wait only 7 weeks to work. I think I will be putting everything together during my spring break. Hubby is painting the babies room next week on his spring break

Hey Ladies.. My mom just told me I might not have a baby shower. Which I am a little bit upset because my brothers girlfriend had one and she had to share it with my bridal shower. So I am cranky.

What are somethings I need to get for her before she is born. What are the essentials. I will be breastfeeding. So far I have a crib and sheets. My mom is buying me a car seat and stroller. We received some used clothes from my brother.

THANKS

There is a "Getting ready for baby" guide on the BabiesRUS website that is very helpful, you can download it and take a look at it, I think page 3 is an actual list of supposedly (I said that because you need to keep in mind they are a store, therefore they try to sell a bunch of stuff I truly didn't find necessary at least for awhile) essential things you need before the baby arrives. Hope it helps.

Pri, congrats!

You will need more than I could remember to list here

Do you have a Babies R Us nearby? They have a kiosk set up with all kinds of baby and new parent essential information.

I am going to one this weekend. Thanks guys I will check out the list. Do you really need all that stuff. What are items they say you need but really don't need. My mom says I need a changing table but I have been reading that they are a waste is that true? Do they save your back? Do you really need a breast pump or can you do without? If you need one is better to spend more money on a quality one or do the cheaper ones work ok?

Hey Shauna I spoke to earlier about sleeping good. Last night was the worst. Then I went to work and felt horrible and had to have my boss teach my students. I felt bad letting her know last minute but I wouldn't of made it. I just want to save my sick days so I can get paid too.

Why aren't you getting a shower? Tell them they have to give you one. :P

To be honest about the lists...a lot of things are not completely necessary. I got a lot of things that I wanted that the list says to have, but have not even used everything yet.

In my opinion you just need certain bare essentials and the rest is just an added bonus but not absolutely needed. Think about when we were babies, our moms didn't have all these gadgets they sell now.

Some things you will need IMO...

-Onesies and some cotton pants to keep legs warm

-feetie pajamas

-mittens so baby doesn't scratch their face

-socks(we realized we didn't have enough after the baby was born)

-hats to keep the head warm, at first especially

-receiving blankets to swaddle with

-burp clothes or bibs(we use the bibs while feeding and burping with a bottle)

-washcloths

-diapers and wipes

-bottles(w/slow flow nipples)...depends on if you pump

-multiple use pads...a box of 24 from Munchkin brand is $5 and they are useful while changing diapers, you put it over the changing table or pad and they savce you having to clean it if and pee or poo leaks out during a change

-if baby doesn't sleep in crib at first, I'd suggest instead of getting a fancy bassinet to get a Pack n Play with basinet and changing table attached...you get 3 things for a similar price as just a bassinet. Mine was $80 and it's been useful. Then you don't need a real changing table for quite some time. The one attached carries up to 20lbs.

-an inexpensive baby bathtub

-baby shampoo or body wash

-alcohol swabs for umbilical cord(unless the hospital gives u a bunch)

-some sheets for the crib

I can't remember what else but I'd say they are essentials. Certain toys and special things the baby won't use at first so you could wait til after she's born to buy them.

As for the pump...I wish I would have waited til after the baby was born to buy it. I would have bought a different one. You may want to wait and see, if you really need it you can send someone out to buy it even while you are still in the hospital. The hospital should have one you can use while you are there if you feel you need it.

you will need most of it...

as far as the changing table i got one of those bassinet/play yard/changing tables......i live in a single floor house so i really didn't see the need of more than one changing area....i guess really it was would make sense to you...

as far as the breast pump you will need one if you are planning on breast feeding again that is really your choice of what you want...do you wand to manually do it?? or have a electric one with one or two breast pumps...do you want a backpack or purse style...i got one that was the backpack and has dual pumps also what i liked about it is if i need to pump at work it comes with a little cooler to keep the milk cool....there are just so many options...

about sleeping i know you want to work until you go into labor....but you need to think about your health and sleep....if you aren't getting enough sleep or rest that isn't good...you need your rest....just something to think about...

Thanks a lot!!! We are on a major budget and it helps to know what to get. With my hubby in college we are just looking for the basics. I will print this list out and take it with me this weekend.

Awww Tracy .... I know what you mean about the fatigue :(

We have been having a great time in Florida .... went to Sea World yesterday, which was a lot of fun, but honestly, the walking around was difficult. My mom tells me she thinks I am having more trouble walking because I am carrying so low.... and of course, there is the sciatica :( My hubby and mom were great, stopping frequently for me to sit down. It was a little pitiful though, when the 80 year old lady with the walker passed me!!! LOL

Belwin Mills ... sorry to hear about you not getting a shower. Have you talked to your mom about how you feel and asked why she says that?

I may not have a shower either and was kind of bummed about it, but felt a little better when I talked about it to my mom and discussed her reasons for saying that I might not (apparently, not something that has been done a lot in our family and then I really don't have a lot of friends in the area where I live .... most are down in GA, where I used to live ... so not a lot of people to come). Still sucks if I don't get to have the shower, but it helped to understand the reasons.

I didn't have a real shower either. My MIL brought all the presents from the family when she visited us in NC back in February 2007. It's always good to get a little support from family.

I can feel my baby kicking like crazy. "She" is starting to drive me nuts but at least she seems fine (I'm guessing it's a girl...it's a gut feeling).

my hubby and I are seriously considering adopting a child... but it won't be for another year or two...

I was watching this movie Martian Child and it just hit me that I wanted to adopt a child....

we just want to be parents and I think it would be cool to raise and love a child who might not have a loving home otherwise....

Cool!

I was just thinking today that I know three couples who adopted and got pregnant during the adoption process! One of them had her baby three days before her adopted baby was due.
