@ Evi: Too funny, we are all O+ too.....

@ Nessa: You can do it if you want, no matter what your belief is. But you don't have to either. The hospital I delivered Jona at doesn't offer the procedure, neither does my ped. I know most hospitals, obgyns and peds to it though. We didn't do it as we see no advantage in it and our religion doesn't call for it. I always thought it is no biggie, but decided strongly against it after reading all information about it, which I think is a great recommendation to make an informed choice either way. My husband supported my choice completely, even though he would have done it, he understands my concerns.

@Nessa: I agree with Anna on the circumcision. Make a well informed decision, either way. Make that rule of thumb on anything regarding your baby. Parents circumcize 50/50 now. It's uncommon in Germany and most parts of Europe, so I was kind of shocked when I heard of that "custom" here. We told our doctors at the hospital that we were against it but they tried to tell us it's not hygienic (sp??) and we should definitely do it. They kept asking, even thoguh we told them NO. Worse, when we got the hospital bill, they even charged us for the circumcision!

If you decide for it, see if they use proper anaesthesia (not just a little bit of gel). I hate that some doctors here argue, that a newborn doesn't feel pain.

Oh, now that we are talking doctors.... I forgot whether I mentioned it before. Last time we went for our check up, they didn't have the Hib shot, so he was only supposed to get Prevnar. The doctor walks in and gives him 2 shots before we even realized what the heck was going on. I asked what the other shot was for and she said "that's Polio". But my Baby already had all the Polio shots. According to his schedule he wasn't due for another polio shot until his 18 month checkup. When I showed her our records ( I keep track of his immunizations in a little book they gave me) she just shrugged and said that she didn't see a polio shot documented in his file (a bunch of loose papers). So my kid just got one totally unnecessary shot because they are so unorganized and incompetent.

So my mommy lesson learned: Never trust a doctor. You have to be your own advocate regarding everything, especially when it comes to your child. I can't believe how careless doctors can be.

Mommies and mommies to be@ When is a good time to start looking for a pediatrician??? Another question, I'm having a girl and the tradition in my culture (I'm peruvian) is to have the babie's ears pierced at the hospital, do they do that here too? Hubby is not so happy about it, he wants to wait a few years....

Chrissy@ I agree with Staashi, get the citizenship first and then make a decision, but if you are happy here you should stay.

Nessa@ If we were having boy we'll definitely go for it.

Stina@: Congrats I'm glad the everyhting is fine with Kavi

I'm having the glucose test this Saturday, do they give me the results right away???? (well, after the hour?).

We are watching "Unconventional births" and 'Free Birthing" at Discovery Health, OMG, it's going to hurt :crying:

Good night!

@Vi: we had our first interview with our pediatrician about 2 weeks before my due date. They were the pediatricians who look after the newborns at the hospital also. It was great, we discussed things like vaccines, circumcision... all that.

You could ask your pedi about the ear piercing.... Honestly... I have respect for tradition... But when it comes to painful procedures, I don't know. If it doesn't have to be done for a medical reason ,then why have a baby suffer through unnecessary pain for jewelry... That just seems bizarre. But of course, that's just my opinion.

My glucose test results took a few days. No news are good news.

@Stina: yay, I'm so happy that Kavi is fine!!

@ Vi: you'll be fine! :) I always told myself that millions of women have been through this and did just fine, so why wouldn't I, and it worked out... The good think about labor pain is that you know that it will be over, you can always tell yourself it will be over soon. And there are so many techniques to cope with it, you'll find something that works for you! Don't worry!

Pediatricians: well we have Tricare and there is a ped on base, so we don't get to choose... I was considering for a while to switch to the Tricare PPO and tried to interview about 6-7 local peds. They would not talk to me, they wanted me to make an appointment. The receptionists would not tell me their stance on vaccinations and which vaccine brands they carry... Pretty annoying, so I'm supposed to pay for something to prolly learn I don't like it? A short interview should really be for free. I interviewed all obgyns and midwives before I picked one - at least they had some answers!

Thanks everyone! :)

Vi-I am not sure, I think places all do it differently. For my glucose test, I got to know right away. She took my blood reading on a machine right in front of me, and as long as it was under a certain number I passed. I think the # was 136 at my office. If it was above that, you'd be called to come back for the dreaded 3 hour test. I was very relieved when I passed the first test!

òh yeah, where and when do they circumsize them? is it at the hospital done by the obgyn? or do i have to convert myself to judaism?

They had it available to be done at my hospital before you leave. We didn't plan on doing it for a couple reasons. Not sure if it's more common now in India but from my husband's generation at least I think circ was not common so we decided not to. But because of the hypospadias, with the surgery in September to correct it, the circ was done also during the surgery. If a baby is born with hypospadias, they said and I read in different places that not getting them circ'd at birth is better in case they need that skin for corrections. I don't know if they needed any for Kavi's surgery.

Caro!!!! Viva, viva Argentina!!!! <doing little happy dance for the next Argentine/USA baby> That is sooo wonderful. I'm very excited for you. OMG - well, just think in about 6 months you get to experience what I like to call "Che Belly" and also, "Che Baby!" Last week when I was at my U/S, the baby wouldn't move - little bit was just sleeping away - just like his father (not a morning person). So, I tapped on my belly and I was like, "Che, Baby - despiertate!!!" But no, he wouldn't move a muscle. :bonk: Just like dear old dad.

That's very special about your mom. You know, in the beginning, I had lots of problems with bleeding and such - I kept thinking and the doctor, too, that I was going to lose the baby. Well, my father passed away 4 years ago, so all the time instead of praying to God (I figured He had lots on His plate already), I would just say, "Dad, if this baby is healthy and meant to be, do you think you could just kind of keep him in there and take care of him." :innocent: I'm happy to say that here I am 28 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby.:star:

Caro@: Felicidades!!!!! Time will fly you will see, and this is an awesome forum, the perfect place to share experiences and look for advice, all the mommies and mommies to be are great. Take it easy chica, specially during the first semester.

Chnst@ It's funny that you mention that top. That day we were going to a X-mas party and I was so upset 'cause nothing fit me  , I totally fogot about that top, when I found it on the bottom of my drawer it had the tag on still. Perfect for the ocassion, loose, and comfortable. I think I bought it during the summer.

We are going to start investigasting about pediatricians very soon. I remember that my ob/gyn told me that her best friend is a pediatrician from Peru so that's our first choice I think.
