We started with Pampers Swaddlers, which are really nice. The biggest size available is 2-3 though. I had a small pack of Huggies newborn in the house, but ended up ordering Preemie diapers on diapers.com as Jona was too small for those newborn diapers. I agree that Pampers Babydry hold a lot of liquid, but they small weird and after a time offensive to me. Also, Jona got diaper rash from them. As soon as I changed brands the issue was resolved. I like Huggies, 7th Generation and now stick with Natural Choice. Actually, Natural Choice is even cheaper than Huggies and hence a good price. We use the Tushies wipes, really good and absolutely no bad ingredient for those little sensitive skins!

Diapers.com does save you money because it is tax free, so is Amazon (free delivery with both). Diapers cost the same at our local Babies'r'us, but I would have to pay 7.25% sales tax!

Nessa: Jona pooped every time he ate in the beginning, so every 3 hours, we changed diapers. Little boys tend to pee on you! I bought some Gerber's cloth diapers to put on him while I clean his bottom to catch the spraying. It's also great to pat him dry as baby's behind should be dry before you put that new diaper on. Also get some diaper rash cream, I put a tiny bit now after every poopie diaper to prevent rashes. We had lots of different creams and love the Weleda diaper cream.

LOL He will let you know when it's time to fill up the tank.. If you are planning on breastfeeding, you will constantly feed him the first weeks (every 2-4 hours the first days and NIGHTS). It's harder to find a routine when you are nursing. A babies tummy is as tiny as his fist and breastmilk is digested within minutes in contrary to formula wich is based on cows milk or soy and hence harder to digest for an infant.

Your days and nights will run together for a while, but if you sleep while the baby sleeps, you'll get through it...I promise.

It's really quite nice to be with baby in those peaceful, quiet, middle of the night moments :luv:

@Nessa: That is one of the reasons why baby slept in our bed(room) for the first few weeks. I had my entire diapering station in our bedroom. When baby is hungry it will give you cues such as sucking his/her hand, rooting (if you breastfeed) etc. Like Chrissy said, it will come naturally to you.

I'm a little nervous right now, so many things to learn.....

A few friends recommended me the Swaddlers and to buy them at Babies R Us, so I guess we will got and buy a few boxes, then my sister in law said not to buy so many diapers 'cause sometimes the babies don't get used to the brand or get rashes, a least we are sure about the baby wipes.

Some babies skin are more sensitive than others. Drew uses whatever diapers we buy and has never had an issue. I never cared for the Luvs brand, but that's just personal preference.

Get thick, soft wipes...and get a lot!

how often does the baby need diaper changing?

As many times as it needs changing. Assume 5-8 diapers a day to start.

I used to be a nanny for this family where the dad wanted me to change the diaper like every hour or so.... if it had a little pee in it he wanted it changed...

@mazzella: why don't u buy only 1 box and try see if it works. it's not like your husband can't go buy more for you once the baby is born.

@all moms: on the wipes issue: I just bought a ton of wipes on amazon. 700 wipes for 25$. They are on sale. "Natures babycare" wipes. The best part- 100% biodegradeable and no harmful ingredients. I love those and they deliver them within 2 days to your door. free shipping.

@Nessa: I agree with Eveline, it's very practical to have baby, diapers etc in your room the first weeks. I couldn't have survived running to his bedroom every single time. I changed his diaper every time he woke up for a feeding so he could go right back to sleep when he was done eating.
