So I need a bit of help and advice from those of you who have breast feed or are breast feeding. My baby is 20 weeks now nd my milk supply is gone. I had loads of milk in the beginning and now I can barely feed her. SOme days I get a little bit of milk but rarely do I have enough to satisfied. I'm not supplementing more and more with formula. Thw weirs this is this my girlfirend who has a 7 month old has weaned him cause her milk supply has diminished and he's eating solids. She said her boobs were really engorged during the weaning -me I have nothing. Soft big boobs with no milk. Does anyone know if this is normal. I'm seeing my doctor on Tuesday cause that's the earliest appointment I could get. I'm going to ask if I can get some Reglan to help increase my supply. I wasn't ready to wean my baby. And pumping my breats isn't bringinbg in my milk either. I'm luckly if I got an ounce out. This might be too much TFI but menses came back too? Is that normal? Looking for any information. Calling the LaLeche legaue in my area too. Thanks.

I'm back again with another question for those of you ladies who are traveling via air for the holidays. I'm flying back to Canada on Monday. I'm bringing one suitcase for me, suitcase for baby, diaper bag, Stroller, and car seat. Will the airlines charge me for all my stuff- meaning the car seat and stroller? Also what are they doing about formulas, are you allowed to check it through?

Sorry I can't help you with the breastfeeding problems, but I can tell you this about traveling. When Ayman and I flew, I had a big suitcase checked, small duffle bag, car seat, unbrella stroller and a big diaper bag. The airline should not charge you for the car seat and stroller. You should also get to bypass a lot of the lines in security and board the plane first. You can stroll your baby all the way to the door of the plane then you leave the carset and stroller. Airline personel will tag it and take it below and when you land they will have it waiting for you when you get off the plane. Now regarding formula. I took little ready made cans that had the pop tops in my diaper bag for on the plane. I made the mistake of packing a can of powder formula I had been using in our checked bag and security smashed it and it got all over our things. So, if you pack formula just make sure it is unopened powder or cans of ready made.

Check out the breastfeeding section at mothering.com, there a lots of people who had similar issues and know what helps. Maybe you also want to contact an IBCLC near you? They helped us tremendously to establish my milk supply in the beginning and all that... Reglan is supposed to help, also Fennugreek and just having the baby suck a lot (or a hospital grade pump, you can rent it).

Do you guys have experience with international travel and a baby? Do you guys know the weight limit for the bassinet in the airplane (gonna fly with Lufthansa)??? I guess I can't bring pumped milk cause it's a liquid and I have to pump after the security check??? Oh boy sooo not looking forward to a long flight with a baby!

I have/had the same problem. I was desperate, because I am 100% committed to breastfeeding, and suddenly, my milk production took a nose dive. It broke my heart to see my son crying when he was done nursing because he wanted more milk and I didn't have enough. He wasn't ready to wean, and I wasn't ready to give up or provide formula. So when all the herbal remedies didn't work, I went to my doctor and got Reglan. It works wonderfully! I've been using it for several months, although the doctor thinks I shouldn't need it anymore. But if I run out, immediately my productions drops dramatically. So I begged for refills, and they gave them to me.

I wish I didn't need medication to successfully breastfeed my baby, but I want what's best for him and he really still wants/needs to nurse. So I do what I have to do. Hopefully, this will work for you, too. Keep me posted!

Me too. I tried the herbal stuff, but no success. I had a really good double electric breast pump and not much there. So I'm hoping to get Reglan and praying that jump starts my milk production.

@ Nessa - Ohmygosh, that is just so adorable :)

@ New Orleans Bound - I struggled with breastfeeding from day one. I was very committed to doing it and tried just about everything. Here are some ideas. At my 6 week check up, the doctor did a blood test to measure my prolactin and it was low. He then prescribed Reglan which worked wonderfully. I had tried a combination of fenugreek and blessed thistle before that and it did not work as well (I had read an article that recommended combining those herbs for the best results). I have known others who said those herbs did work. I worked with 3 lactation consultants. One of them recommended pumping bursts to increase supply. For example, at 8 am, pump for 10-15 minutes. At 9 am, 1 minute. 10 am, 10-15 minutes. 11 am, 1 minute. Noon, 10-15 minutes. She said that I should do that and expect to get just a dribble when doing the minute pumps. I also did an email consultation with Dr. Jack Newman, who is a Canadian physician who is very involved and supportive of breastfeeding and has written extensively on the subject. Here is a link to a website that has his articles.

http://www.breastfeedingonline.com/

For me, the Reglan was what made the difference. After that, breastfeeding was amazing ... for about 2 weeks. I wish I had gotten it sooner. When Declan was 2 months, he had surgery and was in the hospital for a week. There, he refused to breastfeed and would not afterwards as well. I took another course of Reglan but because he wasn't nursing, my milk supply did not increase significantly, even though I was pumping.

A lactation consultant had also recommended trying domperidone. It can be difficult to find in the U.S. but can be found at a compounding pharmacy. My doctor suggested trying the Reglan first since insurance did not cover domperidone.

Good luck and keep us posted!

We had Ilyas' 4 month check-up yesterday--he's doing great!

He now weighs over 13 pounds--still a bit small, but double his birth weight, and the doctor seemed pleased with his growth. He's also getting tall--25 inches (but how accurate is measuring a squirmy infant?).

My question for y'all: when did you start feeding your babies cereal? My doctor said we could start anytime between now and 6 months. I am still breastfeeding and hope to continue until he is a year old. I don't feel any big rush to start him, but am wondering how babies react at different ages. TIA!

Cool pics, Nessa!
