Wow, we switched carseats 3 weeks ago. Jona weighs now (!!!!) 19.3 pounds. The infant seat is only up to 20 pounds, however he was too tall for it and the straps weren't long enough anymore. We now have a car seat that allows up to 65 pounds. We currently have it rear-facing and it will remain so as long as possible before we turn it around. It's a Britax Boulevard.

@ Parivar: Don't worry about the head, I know plenty of kids with the same "issue", which is now issue at all. Not everyone grows according to standardized growth charts! When Jona was born the docs freaked out because he was in the 3rd percentile, now he's big and they gimme odd looks (he eats breastmilk only, it's not like I was stuffing him with food!). But who cares, as long as the babies are thriving, healthy and happy, size doesn't matter.

I had my OB appt this morning. My blood pressure is not high. Yea! My doctor basically told me to keep on keeping it easy and to call with even the slightest abnormality. She said she basically expects me to deliver early, but hopes I stick it out at least another two weeks. A good appointment for a change!

zaid was out of his infant carrier at 3 months, he was way tooo long for it. We got the evenflo triumph convertible carseat that way it is rear facing now and we can turn it around in the next few months. In fact were going out tonight to get a 2nd one for our 2nd car

We thought we were being so smart when we bought Declan's infant seat/stroller combo. We got a Graco Safeseat, which actually goes up to 30 pounds (the Snugride and other models only go to 22 pounds). Our infant seat is bigger than other infant seats I have seen. However, my skinny boy will fit it poundwise until he is probably 2 or something, but lengthwise, he will be outgrowing it in the near future :(

Guys, I am wanting peoples' opinions on how to get Declan to sleep in his crib. He was doing okay in there until he had an ear infection and the doctor told us to have him sleep in his carseat until it was cleared up. Then, when he had a respiratory infection, the doctor again told us to have him sleep upright in the carseat. Problem is, now when we put him in his crib, he wakes up frequently screaming. If he is in his carseat, he will sleep through the night.

My husband likes the "let him cry it out" method and agrees with a lot of the Ferber method. I am more of a proponent of Dr. Sears and attachment parenting. We haven't done anything yet because we know we need to agree on our approach and be consisent. Feedback please!!!

I'm on Dr. Sears side, that's how my parents did it with us... I cannot let my child cry, especially when you read Dr. Sear's book that it's not good for babies (high blood pressure when they scream too long and brain gets deprived of oxygen). I would follow my mommy instinct. :)

@autumn: try elevating his crib matress by putting a rolled up towel/blanket underneath the matress. He's probably just not used to being flat on his back anymore and being "swaddled" by his carseat.

I agree with Doc Sears too, Ferber seems a bit too crazy IMO. So against any maternal instinct. Just keep trying. We are having trouble getting Ben to sleep too, but he is getting better! he is in a small crib at the end of our bed now and it took him a while to adjust.

Good luck with that and YAY for his first teeth!

@Nessa: we had an infant carseat and we never even bothered using it. It was too small. We got a convertible and used the infant snuzzler with it during the first 2-3 months when Ben was very little. He is now between 20 and 21 pounds and there is still plenty of room.

Make sure that it is comfy though. For our trip to Germany we bought a cheap convertible and he hated it! It barely has any padding and was just so uncomfortable.

I think it is wise to invest some money in a carseat you will have for at elast 1-2 years.

We were able to get a second car seat from our local health department (twenty one years ago I admit). They wanted everybody to have them so they had a 'loan-out' program.

You might check around to see if there is something like that in your area.

The only prob I had with moving to a convertible carseat early was that zaid wasnt sitting on his own yet so it made shopping VERY hard as I was so use to just propping his infant carrier into the grocery basket. I would have to hold him and try to push a cart thru Jewel ...

The whole car seat issue was something I really struggled with. I wanted to get two convertibles, but I think for easy of transportation of two small babies, the snug rides is a little easier for us in the beginning. Plus...I heard they work a little better for smaller babies (and who knows when double trouble are going to make their presence). The other plus, we just have to buy two extra bases and the car seats can work in either of our cars (not two more car seats). If we were having one baby, I would seriously consider the convertible.
