Aaawww, Vi you are so cute...in a bikini and all preggo. Can't wait to see your belly when you are full term. I'm sure you are going to be all belly.

Amirah is going for her one year shots and checkup today. yikes. But I am curious what the doc will say about her size, she's really small and I think she has gained less than a pound in the last 3 months. Maybe I am just comparing her too much to my son who was a giant like some of the boys around here :)

Adam hasn't really gained since he was 15 months old or so. He's somewhere between 30 and 32 lbs and has been there for quite a while. I think they just grow longer and don't gain as much since they are active like crazy in that age. Good luck.

Hi Ladies - I found out yesterday I'm having a boy. He looks very healthy...his heart, kidneys, and spine are doing great. I was very concerned as I'm a diabetic and had been advised that my baby could have all kinds of birth defects especially heart issues and spina bifida. So it was a great relief to see that everything looked great - which is what the neonatalogist said.

We had been hoping for a girl, and were a little bummed when the tech said he was a boy, but we got over it real quick. Very cute.

nice bump, vi.

i want a healthy baby, it doesn't matter the size. I think i was almost 9lbs, but i don't think that has anything to do with anything. i don't think it's genetic, dunno.

Actually, baby weight is controlled by a few factors...if a mother has uncontrolled gestational diabetes her baby can be huge - 10+ pounders. Even if the mother doesn't have gd and the baby weighs that much, the drs will be concerned that the mother and the baby are predisposed to diabetes in the future. Babies who have lower birth weights, are typically due to the mother drinking a good amount of caffeine during pregnancy.

no caffeine and have never had problems with sugar. My blood results have been great so far. So I don't know. All I wish is that the baby isn't born before time, oh, and I hope not after time either, :P

@Staashi: good luck, take good care of yourself with the gd! Chances are if your sugar levels stay somewhat normal you will have a healthy, average-sized baby.

Not sure about the caffeine though... My baby was 8lbs 11oz. And I had coffee until the starbucks clerk refused it to me. :bonk::lol:

alcohol and nicotine are a sure way to have a small sized baby- with all sorts of issues of course.

Haha, me too. With Adam I had more coffee than with Allie cause it made me sick when I was in the first trimester with her. I tried to cut back and I think I did good but still, I had my venti coffee in the afternoon and probably two cups in the morning. Luckily both kids didn't take any harm (or so I think hehe).

I do think a lot of the size of babies is genetic. No one in my family had GD and my grandmother had an 9, 10, and 11 lb baby. My mom had me 5 weeks early and I was 8 lbs. My sister was on time and was 9 lbs. My sister has two daughters who were both close to 9 pounds. So...it just looks like big babies in my family. My two measured at 28 w 5 d as 4lbs 3 oz and 3 lbs 13 oz. The average weight for twins at that gestational age is 2 lbs 12 oz. I was told they both measured in the 90th percentile. So...it seems that they are following the family trend. When looking at pictures of my husband as an infant, he was not necessarily very heavy, but he was long. So...it seems are babies are going to be big. I now call them my "baby giants". You should see the stretch marks on my stomach right now. It seems like my stomach grows by inches every day!

Update on our pregnancy:

We're in the final month, doing the weekly OB appointments now. My wife's due date is either the 18th or the 30th depending on which OB you believe. Our daughter's head is down, heartbeat is strong, everything is "go", just waiting for the dough to finish rising. :)

@Nessa: don't worry. You'll be fine!

@Kelly: I don't like the walkers. We have stairs and we already have an exersaucer that he's not too interested in. He loves the bouncy airplane that hooks to the doorframe. His feet just barely touch the ground and he loves jumping in it. Maybe the In Laws could get him a walker so we can try it at their house.

To all the nursing moms: when did you start weaning/ substituting with other fluids? My pediatrician was shocked at the 7 month check up that I'm still breastfeeding and that he doesn't eat 3 meals of cereal every day.

I feed him a little oatmeal and one jar of the earths best fruit in the morning and a jar of veggies or avocado at night.

Either veggis or fruit for lunch. he gets super constipated if I feed him any cereals other than oatmeal.

@Chrissy: when is your due date? I found out on dec.18 of last year the sex of my baby! how exiting!!

my due date is May 14th!

She'll be 20 weeks tomorrow. Don't know the gender yet, but her ultrasound will be Dec 17. I'm glad the first few months are over for her, she was feeling crabby and nauseas everyday.

her ultrasound is the day before i have my big ultrasound too, let us know how it goes!
