It's kinda like we have been on that baby journey together you know? Our boys are about the same age so it would be fun if you had a little girl next.

Hi ladies. I'm not a mama but a close friend is having a baby soon and I want to find her a bunch of really awesome and handy gifts. Can you new mamas suggest to me some things that have really been of help for you during the first year of your newborn's life? I don't want to get the typical gift of onesie's because I know she'll be getting plenty of those from other people. I was thinking a baby sling so she could carry him/her around with her but not sure what other things? I'm interested in spending a total of probably $200-250 total.

Also what about natural/organic baby products? Shampoos, lotions, diaper rash cream? Are there any brands you highly recommend? Its all so new to me and I want to make sure she has great stuff!

Thanks in advance if any of you can help.

Jen, my sister has two little ones...some of the things she found helpful was a boppy - special pillow that helps with breastfeeding; a bumpo - great for sitting; instead of a high chair, there are these special chairs that sit on top of a dining room chair - they are nice because they have a special tray, but in time can just be pushed into the table and the child sit with the family. I also like the sling thing...kind of cool looking.

I second the boppy pillow...very useful for nursing etc. I love my boppy even though I'm not using it as often anymore. For a sling...I'd get a pouch. It is easiest for a starter. You can check it at www.hotslings.com.

As for babyproducts I loooove burt's bees stuff. You can get that at Target for a reasonable price. It is pricier than the johnson&johnson products but I love it for the ingredients and the smell of it. California Baby is also good but I haven't tried that yet.

Don't forget about mom...get her a Starbucks Giftcard or a manicure, spa day etc...after all she's the one who is carrying the baby and eventually will have to take care of it.

WE have one of those high chair booster seats from Safety First. The tray was the first thing to come off of it. Adam has been using it from about 6 months on...he's almost two now. I like it, it's easy to clean and not as bulky as a high chair BUT you will lose a dining table chair since you strap the booster to it.

I was feeling crummy last night and this morning. I called my OB's office and they told me to go to labor and delivery at the hospital. I swear, I am going to get to know the nurses well before I even deliver (this was my third trip). It wasn't my blood pressure this time. I was having lots of irregular contractions. I think the nurse counted 16 in 70 minutes. So, I got about 2 liters of fluids and shot of terbutaline. That calmed it down. Since I had an appointment with the perinatalogist later this afternoon, I was paroled. When I got to the appointment at his office, I had another nonstress test and a biophysical profile. The babies are doing well. I got to see a good pic of Zak today. He was facing in the right direction that I got to see his cute profile and that he was sucking his thumb. :luv:

Chrissy- I am silently hoping for a girl for ya too. I would love to have a girl next.

Twila- Sorry to hear you weren't feeling good, hope you are better now. So sweet about Zak sucking his thumb. I always hoped to see Ayman doing something like that, but the lil stinker never did.

I hope everyone that isn't feeling well gets better soon. Hubby, Ayman and I have been feeling a little under the weather since we got home Sunday night, but luckily no fevers or anything just allergies we're hoping.

Has anyone else gotten their baby a walker? My parents got one for Ayman and he loves it. He scoots himself all over the place backward, but hasn't figure out how to go forward yet.

Also, what is everyone getting their babies for Christmas? My mom and I looked at toys all weekend, but there are just so many I don't know what to get...

You can't go wrong with organic cottons/natural stuff, it's mostly gender neutral too!

A Boppy Pillow! We have one with an organic cotton cover. They sell them at Buy buy Baby. Check out Pottery Barn Kids or Buy Buy Baby or Babies R Us, they have a lot of organic cotton stuff.

Also, I love Baby Legs. They are legwarmers for babies and soooooooo handy in the winter and they make diaper changes easy. Our pediatrician loved them last time we went for shots because we could get him dressed so that just his thighs were naked.

It's hard to find them at a store, but you can order them online. They also have them in organic cotton. (perfect if you don't know the gender)

I have to agree, Burts Bees is the best stuff for lotions and diaper ointment! It smells great and it has natural ingredients! I also like Weleda bath soap (they sell it at wholefoods).

If you are thinking about buying anything plastic, make sure it's BPA free. And as Evi said, don't forget Mom. I got gift certificates for a spa, hair &nail place and starbucks and thought that was so sweet! Hope that helped!

@Karima: we got Ben some Baby Einstein stuff and leave the rest up to the Grandparents and aunts and friends.

@autumn: hope you feel better!

@Twila: hang in there! You are getting there!!

Hi everyone!

I have been away in Alabama still. I hope you are all well.

Kavi is 10 months old now! He started doing new stuff and it's so fun. He waves bye bye and tries to say it, and waves hello, and tries to sing the abc song but of course he can't say the letters, he mumbles to the tune. He's just getting too big! :)

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
