we're back from our first Long distance trip. Ben did really well on the plane but mom and dad are exhausted!!!

We had a bassinet seat on the way back which made a huge difference.

I guess we're not going back to Germany for a looooooong time though... I have no clue how to keep a toddler contained on a 9 hour flight.

@Nanny: Kaila is just too cute. Adam didn't cry until he looked back and saw Santa, haha.

 LOL that picture is priceless. He's in complete shock. hahaha!

@Twila: hang in there! Glad your babies are a decent size for their age so far. Please take things easy and rest as much as you can. I'm surprised they didn't put you on bedrest.

@nane: hey congrats on the boy! He's a cutie!!! Good job, without the epidural... I don't know how you girls do it....

@Zaid: hope you're feeling better buddy!! (F) Maybe it's an ear infection if he's that irritated?

@autumn: congrats on the teeth!! Ben is still "working" on his

Well...I got released this morning after three days in the hospital. I am home on pretty strict bedrest. I can tend to my physical needs - shower, bathroom, getting a quick drink or snack, but that is it. I am not allowed to cook, do housework, or basically go outside our home (unless it is for a doctor's appointment). The bedrest has brought my bp down dramatically and the babies are doing well. I have been told I will be watched closely because I was told that bedrest will work for a while, but it will get to a point when that does not work anymore. So, we are just trying to buy the babies as many more days as we can.

Actually, UTIs have nothing to do with the bathroom you use. They have to do with how you clean yourself after the bathroom - always front to back. You can get them from sex from fluids traveling into your urethra...typically certain sexual positions put you at a greater risk of a UTI, which is why they tell you to go tinkle immediately after you've had intercourse as it will flush out the bacteria. DP, I know this isn't your issue with your hubby away. I will also point out, that the toilet seat is normally the cleanest part of any bathroom. I have sat on many in my day and have never had a UTI from a toilet seat.

Here are the causes from the Mayo Clinic's site:

The most common urinary tract infections occur mainly in women and affect the bladder and urethra.

Infection of the bladder (cystitis) is usually caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), a species of bacteria commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract. Sexual intercourse may lead to cystitis, but you don't have to be sexually active to develop it. All women are susceptible to cystitis because of their anatomy — specifically, the close proximity of the urethra to the ####### and the short distance from the urethral opening to the bladder.

Infection of the urethra (urethritis) can occur when the gastrointestinal bacteria make the short trip from the ####### to the urethra. In addition, because of the female urethra's proximity to the #######, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), such as herpes simplex virus, gonorrhea and chlamydia, also are possible causes of urethritis.

One of the best things a pregnant woman can do is to drink a glass of cranberry juice a day - preferably low sugar, or take one cranberry extract tablet a day...that should keep your urinary system in prime condition.

Thats right.

Only embarassing a bit coz I am a very clean person specially down there  . In my case, coz I am tiny and my bladder (which is located right below the uterus) is getting pressed down and is being squished which makes it difficult for all the urine to come out, basically old stuff inside (gross) and thats what made me prone to infection (wish it was $ex, atleast would have enjoyed some). Can't do much about the bladder position and pressure but yes, cranberry juice and lots of liquids are definately helping along with the medecines.

TWILA: Hang in there. I hope you can still get an extra couple of weeks while you are on bedrest.

@Danielparul: I'm sorry you have to put up with a friggin UTI. Pregnant women are more susceptible (sp???) for all kind of yeast infections and UTIs anyway.

@Declan: Congrats on the teeth. Many more to come :)

I'm proud to finally be able to say that Allie slept the entire night in her bed..yey. I took her to bed at 11pm and she slept until 4am, nursed and slept until 6am. THen Adam woke us up and she needed her antibiotics and a breathing treatment. Seems like her cough is only getting worse. Poor little thing. I'm still hoping that the breathing treatments will help her but if she is not better by tomorrow we have to go back to the doctor.

Thanks Eveline, also doesn't help when my dogs find 'down there' very interesting with all the smells and my female dog just wants to put her nose to it lately  (and no, she's definately not getting anywhere near at any cost!)

I hope Adam feels better soon too. Its the most heartbreaking feeling to see a child suffer
