I gave him pieces of mashed banana and boiled potatoes. Right now im steaming baby carrots and will try those later. Im sooo tired of buying baby food and I know the real stuff is so much healthier..

i'm going to start doing that! that's a great idea! I got Kaila one of those baby feeders. It is holder with like a net on the end so they can eat soft foods but not choke and i gave her a banana and she was SO happy about it...

That's what I did Nessa. In the beginning you only introduce one new food every three or four days so you feed potatoe for four days, then carrots for four days etc. THen you can mix yoghurt with banana or barley with applejuice etc..whatever you want to do. Later there comes a point when baby picks up the food itself so you can cube cooked sweet potaoes etc. The real steaming and pureeing I did for about four months or so and then Adam would pick up the food himself.

I know it's early. Here's a good site you might want to put in your faves: http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

i tried giving Kaila yogurt and she broke out with a rash again....so i am really thinking she has issues with protien...we shall see next week what the pediatric skin person says...

I would hold off on any dairy until she's 1 year old. A lot of babies can't handle cow's milk under 12 months.

Here are some Halloween pictures of Ben.

Aaawww, how cute. He got so big.

About dairy. I gave Adam the STonyfield Baby Yoghurt that was alright but of course every baby reacts differently. Adam also had a PB&J Sandwich when he was 11 months old which gave our pedi half a heart attack.

@ Stina - Love the skunk costume! Kavi is adorable.

@ Chsnt - Ben is a sweetie too! He's gotten so big!!!

Declan's pediatrician recommends giving yogurt to babies, he thinks it is one of the best foods you can give. I have held off though because I want to wait until he is a year old. I am going to start cooking food, pureeing it and giving it to Declan too. I especially want to mash up a banana and give it to him (note to self ... buy bananas at the store!). I gave him the baby food banana, and he liked it okay, but not as much as I thought. Of course, when I tried it, I thought it was yucky and not nearly as good as a real banana.

This is why Declan's daddy has been forbidden from buying any more baby clothes for Declan!

LOL I just had a heart attack too. Haha, that's great, that he doesn't have any issues with peanuts. Peanuts are the most common allergic reaction seen in the ER every day, along with insect bites. And they can cause really nasty swelling of the face and even the trachea. I think the dairy in the baby yogurt might be broken down, like the stuff in milk based formula.

@autum: OMG he looks soooo adorable! that's definitely an outfit my hubby would want Ben to wear every single day. haha!

@Stina: oooh that skunk outfit is so cute!

i was thinking about it....but i would put it in the bag....

My pediatrician said i could try the yogurt so i got the plain yobaby yogurt and Kaila hated it...and then she broke out all over her face so going to hold off on it for a while....

I know my sis in law has started giving my nephew puffs and biscuits and he just hit 7.5 months.

We too use our mesh thingy everyday. I freeze grapes and put a few in it and let zaid chew on it when his mouth is hurting. He hates the teether ring so the bag was a nice alternative.

chnst and belwinmills-You both have very cute pumpkins!! :D (cute costumes!!)

autumn-Hahaha, yooo Declan wassup!

Nessa-Pediatricians say some different things but for example ours said: baby cereal starting at 4 months, then add baby vegetable food at 5 months, meats added at 8 months, and I haven't been back yet, his next appt is in Dec. I did follow the plan strictly b/c I was afraid of doing anything wrong. But as Eveline said, some say meats are fine to start earlier. I am not sure why our Dr said to delay, but I delayed anyway. At Kavi's 4 month appt the Dr asked if we tried giving any baby food or cereal yet, I said "no I didn't think I was supposed to", and he congratulated me for not doing it yet, LOL. So a lot of people start that earlier, but he didn't want us to.

We give Kavi some finger foods now, and if we are eating something mushy that he is allowed to have or soft bread, we give him some. I started giving him puffs a couple weeks ago(8.5 months old). They get soggy really quick so they aren't very hard. I also started giving him tiny pieces of soft cheese(American cheese mostly) once in awhile. The biter cookies can be iffy. He is better with it now but be careful, they get soggy but then can come off in big chunks. The directions say not to use before 10 months old, but we started trying them when we was 8 months. He had a hard time with it so I waited a couple more weeks and tried again recently, and he's gotten better with it but still I think it will be better at 10 months old for him.

He has loved banana in the mesh feeder.

Drew wants anything that is food, whether it's his baby food or whatever I'm eating  I'm very discretionary, of course. But he prefers food he can chew, so he's already eating chunky foods. He eats crackers and toast, along with pastas and lots of veggies (he hasn't found one yet that he doesn't like). One of his favorite "dishes" is beans and rice!

Eating makes my son VERY happy...

I had the mesh feeder (TARGET sells them) and I thew it away after one use. I couldn't get that darn thing clean. How do you ladies do it? Maybe I shouldn't have put a banana in it or so. I put it in the dishwasher and it didn't get clean, it was a pure mess.

I think with Allie - provided she gets full off off breastmilk then - we'll wait until she's ready to fingerfeed herself. That way I skip the cooking and pureeing (me lazy a$$, haha). We'll see. If she needs more, I will give her some mashed foods here and there.
