OMG, that is even better! I want to have my next child there!!!

You don't even have to have your child there, all you need to do is work in Canada for about a year before applying for the benefits. I had my daughter here in the States but still qualified for the benefits because I worked in Canada. Even your husband could get paternal benefits. What I mean by that is there are some women who go back to work before the year is up and the husband is able to stay home with the baby and get unemployment insurance for the remainder of the year. It's a wonderful system. Now it would be better if the cost of living wasn't so expensive.

Married August 21 2004 in Nova Scotia!

October 19/04 sent I-130.

April 17/08 finally arrive back in New Orleans after 3 years and 8 months.

May 19/08 Perm Resident Card arrives.

July 24/08 Reapply for a new SS card with married name.

August 4/08 Baby daughter born.

Chrissy-Wow, best wishes for your move!! I hope you are feeling well. :)

How is everyone doing today? :) I am a bit moody but I'm ok. :P My monthly visitor is due soon.

Feeling like a million bucks! Just got back from a manicure and hair dresser, we're going to a wedding tomorrow.

girls, we should all have our next baby in Germany- guaranteed healthcare, up to 3 years maternity leave (starting in your 3rd trimester) , and up to 27 years of "Kindergeld" , means, the government pays you $220 each MONTH until your child is 18 or has his own income.

How cool is that. Free schooling/college education on top of that. well almost free, but it's nothing compared to the prices over here, and people there still complain.

I want to move to Europe, too...

My babe is now 8 weeks old and can be so much fun when he is awake now! Unfortunately, I have to go back to work in 2 weeks...I really like my job (I'm a HS teacher), but I want to be with my son, too. I wish we had on-site child care.

My husband is supposed to take care of our son during the day when I go back, but I'm dreading that, because it means I will NEVER see my husband! We had always talked about it in theory, but didn't put it on paper until this week and I cried when I saw his new schedule. So for now, he will be working:

Tuesday 5-10

Wednesday 5-10

Thursday 5-10

Friday 5-10

Saturday 8 am - 9 pm

Sunday 3 pm-9 pm

His only day off is Monday. Simo will be alone with our baby all day, and I will be alone with him every night.

Ugh. What kind of a family life is that? We didn't want to put our son in daycare, but maybe it is a better option than this schedule :crying: . Of course I never even looked into it, so I feel panicked--good child care is REALLY expensive in Minneapolis and most of the best places are not accepting infants.

I think I will start talking to everyone I know about options...Any suggestions?

I went for an extra sonogram (vaginal) yesterday because I have a big risk for my cervix to give up and shorten/dialate very early in the pregnancy. Everything looked perfect! Because it was a vaginal sonogram we knew that we were most likely not going to see anything of the baby other than maybe a foot or top of the head... Well, we were surprised with what we saw! Baby was with the butt down and showing HIS pride :)

Because the technician had some time left she made a "normal" sonogram too and we got some cute pictures of his face!

In 3 weeks I will have my big check up. I will be a little over 22 weeks than.

Hope Ben feels better <3

Carolyn, I have a good friends mom who does in home day care, she charges a flat rate of 25$ a day, regardless of the hours he is there. You should start asking around.
