Hey y'all,

Any suggestions on what to do about simultaneous baby acne and rough dry skin on my son's face? I know it is normal to have both, but it's rather unsightly (he keeps scratching his face and leaving white streaks)...

I don't use soap on his face--just water to wash it...would baby lotion help or hurt the situation?

P.S. Cute new pics, mamas!

let me start off saying congrats to those of you who a pregnant.

Ok, this post has been a long time coming-if that makes sense. For a while my computer was acting up which made it difficult to post, than I got a virus and had to get the computer fixed. After that the baby came. I had a baby girl Sophia Izabella on August 4th. She arrived without me being induced. I was scheduled for an induction on August 6th due to my gestional diabeties. On SUnday afternoon my mother and I went to Walmart to get the last minute baby stuff, we had our nails(pedicure)done and bought groceries. We spent about 3 1/2 hours at Walmart between all the walking and pedicure. I got home around 3ish and my braxton hicks contraction hadn't gone away. Did some research and figured out I was in early labour. Finished packing my hospital bag, packed hubby's and mom packed her own. Than we sat around and watched TV and waited for the contraction to get more regular.

At 9pm contraction were getting more regular around 5 minutes apart and lasting for about a minute. I showered, woke the hubby and we all packed into the car. Arrived at the hospital at 1030pm. Connected to all the equipment, they do the exam and I'm only 1cm dilated and still 100% effaced. I knew it was going to be a long night. Contractions were getting worst but I wasn't making any progress down there. I had an angel for a nurse and when I hit 3cm I got an epidural. It was a beautiful thing and I went to sleep. At 3 am they started piticon as I wasn't progressing. I got stuck at 5cm. Once they start the pit, the contractions got more intense but I didn't feel a thing. by 4 am the piticon started to effect the baby, she'd drop her heart rate so they had to stop it, wait for her to recover and than start it back up. this happened till 7 am and by that point they decided they were going to do a c-section. at 936 am my precious darling was born. 7 ponds 4 ounces and 20 inches long. she had to go to nicu for a few hours at 2 i think because she had a very low blood sugar. 2 days later post c-section we were home.

Breast feeding was/is still a challenge. my milk didn't come in very quickly. it was a struggle to feed her. I cried a lot and she cried a lot, but eventually my milk came in. Breast feeding has gotten slightly easier but now she's colicy.

Sophia is now 6 weeks old. She's 22inches long and 11 lbs. She loves her breastmilk but I made her colic worst. I was drinking a lot of cow's milk and until I gave uo diary and gave her some NUTRAMIGEN formula and now I have a new child. Thank you KS for the suggestion. This formula is wonderful. I only give her the Nutramigen when she's really fussy on breast and by fussy I mean her face is beet red and she's screaming at the top of her lungs and wont take my breast. The formula seems to settle her stomach and than she can have breast milk. Our pediatrician saw her yesterday and feels that the baby might also be lactose intolerant like me. The pediatrician gave me a prescription for some meds to help her and they seem to be working. A co-worker of mine used gripe water for her daughter to help with colic so I bought some of that too. Today seems to have been an ok day. No major screaming fits and the baby actually had two naps during the day.

Now that the baby is older I'm finding her a bit more interactive. She's now starting to enjoy her fisher price chair/rocker. I haven't been able to coax her to stay in the swing though. She stays in for about 5 minutes and than starts screaming. I can't believe she actually let me sit long enough to type this. I'm happy that Sophia is now calmer and a much happier baby. I also wanted to thank all you ladies for you input wheter it's direct (when I ask question) or indirect(when others ask). This discussion group has been a life saver. Joanna

Congrats on Sophia and thank you for sharing your birth story.

I haven't really spent time with my bambino in the past 3 days because I didn't want to infect him. I have bronchitis and just cannot seem to get rid of this fever. I miss my baby so much. Hubby has been doing a great job, although this may be all in vain since I just heard Declan coughing. I so hope he doesn't get sick.

oh no! I hope you will get better soon! I'm sure Declan will be fine, he's a tough little boy after all he's been through.

Make sure you take good care of yourself, so you will feel better. (F)

Aww, I'm sorry. Get better soon and I'll pray he doesn't get sick!

I wanted to tell you that they called me yesterday with details about what we have to do right before Kavi's surgery on Thursday. This isn't going to be fun! :(

Just a brief thing I'll write for now and if you want more details I will have a lot more after his surgery I am sure so you can ask me any questions you think of.

-At the surgery center we will go to, they usually do the youngest first. I am glad, so he won't be waiting around getting hungry. But we have to be there at 6:30am Thursday morning, and his surgery is scheduled for 7:30am.

-He can't have any formula or food after midnight before the surgery, if he wakes up before 4:30am hungry he can have juice, water, or pedialite. After 4:30am he can't have anything.

-They will give him anesthesia from a small mask and after he falls asleep will give him a spinal block, they said like an epidural in his back, but probably more like what I had to get before my c-section. Also he gets an IV.

-Our Dr says about 1.5 hours of surgery, followed by 30-45 mins of recovery. Then we can see him and feed him formula after that, during recovery the nurse said they can give him juice or something. She also said we can bring a toy or blanket that he likes. Awww. :(

Stina - Poor Kavi. I hate the thought of any baby having to go thru surgery. I hope all goes well. As for saying "no", I have to tell Ayman no too, specially when he starts grabbing his parts down below. He's already starting that bad habit.

Chnst - Ben is soooo cute! He's really getting big. I love the pic in the car.

Autumn - Hope you get to feeling better and Declan doesn't get sick.

Nessa - Congrats on your pregnancy and first ultrasound

NOB - Congratulations on your baby girl. Sorry about the c-section, but sounds like most of us. Ayman was on Nutramigen as well and it really is wonderful.

Carolyn - we use Eucerin plus on Ayman. It is the only thing that keeps his skin moist. We have also used cortizone for his eczema.

Hope everyone else's pregnancies and babies are doing well.

Awww the new baby pics are adorable. Ayman is getting soooo big! And I love that Ben can drive :) Precious.

Well, Declan is sick. Hubby is taking him to the doctor at 1:30. I still feel like hell so I will be at home. My hubby has been such a saint through this, taking care of a cranky baby and a cranky wife!

Stina - Thanks for the update on Kavi's surgery. I will definitely want to hear more details after it happens. I will be thinking about you guys :)

Hubby told me that, at the doctor's office, this old lady stopped him and was cooing over Declan. Then Declan coughed and did a funny half smile. SO the lady told my hubby that Decla has a smile like a drunken sailor! Hubby didn't know what to say? Does one say thank you to someone telling you your son resembles a drunken sailor? LOL
