autumnchik-Wow, sorry to hear about that! Thankfully the person is gone but still that's nerve wracking.

Kelly-Sorry! :( I hope things work out with daycare or a new sitter.

I am excited because the last two nights Kavi slept 10-11 hours straight! Yesterday morning when I woke up and looked at the clock and saw the time I realized Kavi didn't wake up at all that night. He is sleeping in his crib but we sleep in the room with the crib still. Once he really sleeps through then I will feel better about leaving him in his own room. I hope this is a new routine! That'd be great.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Kelly, I had my son in an in-home daycare for 5 years and LOVED IT. If you find the right person I just think its a Godsend. Good luck and I hope it works out.

Stina - I think 7 months is about the right time for sleeping all night and it is indeed such a welcome relief. Something about getting several uninterrupted hours just feels so refreshing :P

So, the only information I have so far is that there were allegations that a staff member struck a child. I have requested a copy of the state report. I did see the corrective action plan, which includes things like: staff shall not withhold food or force feed, staff shall not use corporal punishment. The alleged incident did occur in the preschool room, so at least not in the infant room where my son is. And the staff member is no longer there. Still scary though :(

When my husband picked Declan up at daycare today, they gave him a letter that was being sent to all the parents. Apparently, the daycare had been under investigation by the state for abuse. They said that the employee no longer works there and they believed it was an isolated incident. However, in the letter, they said the report by the state was disturbing. And the director has resigned also. I have no idea what the charges were. I am going to call tomorrow first thing and get more info. The scary thing is that this is the most respected daycare in the area. And I looked online where you can research their licensing inspections and see if there were any violations. This daycare had the least violations. Most of the other ones had lengthier lists of violations. I so wish that I didn't have to work so that I could be home with him, or that my mom could watch him. ARGH!!!

i would be so freaked and worried! i hope you are able to find out some info!! how scary!!!

KS~ sorry to hear that! she should have given you some more notice!

desire~ what a CUTIE!! take time to heal!! it is a little difficult in the begining but take some time for your body to heal!

Twila, I was so excited about the boy and girl combo that I didn't comment on how wonderful it is that they are both doing well! Such a relief, isn't it? I love ultrasounds...oh, and I really like your name choices!

BTW, what problems did you have with your cervix? I had some cervical issues many years ago which caused no problems with my pregnancy but did have an impact on my body's response to labor...

I have had a LEEP w/cone biopsy of my cervix last year. About 13 weeks the perinatalogist was very concerned with how my cervix looked and wanted me to go for a cerclage then. My OB got him to wait two weeks and it looked good at 15 and 18 weeks. He can't be too concerned now as he is not having me come back for a check for another 4 weeks (and that is because he wants to see Baby A (if I remember right, that is Hana) again because she is so low he couldn't get a great view of her heart).

I still can't believe I am at 18 weeks. Since our set goal is for me to make it to 36 weeks, I am halfway there!

Twila

so the lady we interviewed is great, but...i just feel like it is too much of a "Center setting" i really want a homey environment...plus, she charges just as much as a day care and wants us to pay her when we take vacations and holidays..which i understand bc it is her income, but, im really not into it.and..if zaid is sick, she wont watch him which i cant have bc my job isnt the kind of job you cna just call off.....sooo....today im going to meet another women right down the street from sofyans work...im praying she is the one...she only charges 20$ a day...

20$/day... wow... I just talked to a Nanny who would charge me 20/hr to watch Ben, plus weekly gas money, plus paid vacation, etc. That sums up to $800/week.

All the others are either illegal, don't drive, don't speak english or don't have an education at all.

I spoke to one girl who charged only 350/week but when we did a background check, she was arrested for DUI and she couldn't give us any references even though she claims that she has worked as a nanny for many years.

Do you guys check references? It's just so hard for me to trust anyone with Ben. he'll spend so much time with that person when I go back to work/school.

I'm so glad to have the privilege to stay at home with both my kids. DH makes good money and even though they drive me crazy ever night I wouldn't want them to go to daycare full time.

@Chnst: How did you do the background check? Does your husbands job help in that situation or do you hire a company to do that?

he does it at work. All he needs to do is run her drivers license. I am contemplating staying at home until Ben is 1year old. But I'd also like to get my career started in the US. I like to be at home with the baby but I'm not getting any younger, and I really miss work.
