@autumn: so far we didn't do anything. Ben's first pediatrician said that it's ok for breastfed babies to go without a bowel movement for up to 10 days. That's what I learned in college too.

He wasn't fussy or anything, and he usually has a huge bm about once a week, so we never gave him anything. His new pediatrician said that he shouldn't go longer than 3 days and recommended prune juice after 3 days.

It is totally normal for bf babies to go without a bowel movement for quite some time. Where is the constipation coming from if you don't give him anything but breastmilk?

Congrats Desire! What a sweetie!

Quick breastfeeding/poop question (TMI warning!): my breastfed baby's poops have turned from mustard yellow to spinach green...is this normal? He is still eating a ton, pooping 6-8 times a day and peeing a lot, so I assume it's normal, but the color is a little odd (what am I eating to make it this color?)...

I went to the second semester screening today. Both babies are doing very well. Everything looks good and they both are measuring about 1 week ahead of their expected due date. We also found out it is going to be a BOY and a GIRL. So, yes, it is Hana and Zakaria. My cervix still looks good (thank goodness after the drama a little more than a month ago) and the partial placenta previa is old news.

Twila, I was so excited about the boy and girl combo that I didn't comment on how wonderful it is that they are both doing well! Such a relief, isn't it? I love ultrasounds...oh, and I really like your name choices!

BTW, what problems did you have with your cervix? I had some cervical issues many years ago which caused no problems with my pregnancy but did have an impact on my body's response to labor...

I had the same problem. Are you having a rather abundant milk supply? If so, the green poop might be caused by your baby drinking too much of the "foremilk". You probably have so much milk that he drinks only that and doesn't get any of the "hindmilk" which has more fat and keeps him full longer.

Too much foremilk causes green bowel movements.

Let him finish one side. Don't switch after like 10 minutes (like most lactation consultants suggest)

Let him drink on one side and at the next feeding nurse him on the other side.

If the tension get's too painful in the other breast, hand express or hand pump some of it. That will reduce the amount and your baby will start having yellow poop again. ;):)

When my husband picked Declan up at daycare today, they gave him a letter that was being sent to all the parents. Apparently, the daycare had been under investigation by the state for abuse. They said that the employee no longer works there and they believed it was an isolated incident. However, in the letter, they said the report by the state was disturbing. And the director has resigned also. I have no idea what the charges were. I am going to call tomorrow first thing and get more info. The scary thing is that this is the most respected daycare in the area. And I looked online where you can research their licensing inspections and see if there were any violations. This daycare had the least violations. Most of the other ones had lengthier lists of violations. I so wish that I didn't have to work so that I could be home with him, or that my mom could watch him. ARGH!!!
