wow he does have some major allergies!! Did you have to get him tested for all of those food allergies? if so what age was he?

yeah his pedi sent us to a allergist and they did a blood allergy test when he was about 12mo.. we gotta go now 2x a week to the doc cuz of that.. tuesdays to the pedi and thursdays to the hospital cuz they switch foods every week.. he is only allowed to eat that food what they tell me for whole week and we have to go in that they check his skin, urin and blood to see if he breaks out to that.. its a pain in the butt to be honest and i can not wait when this is all over..:crying::whistle:

We got this new memory foam mattress a couple of months back and it was our holy little piece of furniture but since Allie has arrived it seems that our entire life happens on that mattress. I change her there and then Adam likes to sit up on the bed to watch me or do things he's not supposed to (he knows I can't run after him since I'm changing allie). Anyway...for the past two weeks this mattress got peed on twice, had rootbeer spilled all over it and got pooped on twice...that poor thing. I can't even tell DH or he'll give me a speech :whistle:

we got that mattress too and its awesome!! i even bought a small one for D's bed.. he :luv: it!! my mom sent me one of those mattress covers from germany and now D cant spill his juices all over it..:lol: i threw away his other cover when we bought his race car bed and totaly forgot that i need to use that thing.. :ot2::bonk:

Ladies.. for the skin... try a little bit of the bag balm on the skin... if not bagbalm ... try A&D ointment. A&D has two varieties.. one that is medicated. and a non medicated one.. you should try the ointment.. it is clear.. alot of times it is used for sore lil bottoms..

Janak had trouble with his skin... they had him soak put lotion.. put oil etc. still wasnt clearing.. I sent him some bagbalm and A&D ointment..

for the parts thatwere more .. rashy.. like the eczema.. the A&D works great.. more of the dry parts the Bag Balm works.

Side note.. when my daughter was teething.. she would get such red chapped lips and surrounding mouth.. I would keep A&D ointment on her skin.. it would heal right up.

A&D ointment is very useful for skin ailments.

A&D ointment is made of a petrolium base. with Vitimins A&D. which is used to heal skin.

A&D Ointmnet link

ECZEMA:

Symptoms: Itchy, red, scaly skin occurring most commonly on the face, elbows, and backs of knees

Causes: Allergic reaction to food (especially dairy and wheat products), animal fur, wool,

and detergents. Can also be triggered by anxiety

Recommended Treatment: Try to prevent the skin from becoming too dry. Don't bathe

your baby too frequently. Apply A+D® Original Ointment to the affected areas to help soothe the dry skin

i had thought about a&d but wasn't sure if it would work...i will try it and see how it goes...

she got her blood drawn yesterday for allergies so we shall see what comes back positive...

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while--I did post about the birth of our little boy in the MENA forum (Middle East/North Africa), but it has been hard to type while breastfeeding!

Anyway, for those who didn't see the post:

Our sweet little boy was born 11 days ago!

His info:

name: Ilyas Leonardo

born: August 16, 2008 at 8:14 am (on his papa's birthday--what a great birthday present, eh?)

height: 19 inches (they said 21 at the hospital, but the dr's office said 19 yesterday)

weight: 6 pounds, 8 ounces (as of yesterday, at 10 days old, he was up to 6 pounds 11 ounces--yeah!)

We have been happily recovering and relaxing and figuring out breastfeeding at home lately--we finally ventured out yesterday after the doctor to run some errands--Ilyas slept the whole time! I don't know if it was the comfortable car seat, the constant movement of the car and stroller or what, but I didn't hear a peep out of him for over 2 hours!

Two questions for you experienced mommies:

1. My babe is shedding his skin--he is peeling everywhere! Is there anything I can do to help the process? More or less bathing, soap, lotion, oil, etc?

2. Ilyas has so far not spit up even once. I assume that his digestion is normal since he is eating and pooping a TON, but should I expect spit-up later, or am I blessed with a non-spit-upping baby?

congrats Carolyn (F)

Does anyone know anything about acne medication during pregnancy? 'Some websites say it's ok, some say some it's not good, etc. I guess i'll be calling my doctor tomorrow to see if i can continue or not. I use Salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and retinol.

I already had to stop with the antibiotic, if i have to stop with the lotions i'll start looking like a 14 year old. i'll break out like crazy. no meds + crazy hormones.

not only i'm extremely bloated that i'm starting to look like a blowfish

(cuz I can't poop anymore. TMI, i know)

, now that :dead:

Congrats Carolyn! I remember Kavi's skin peeling a lot. It went away eventually. I forgot all about that until just reading what you wrote. :) I didn't really do anything to help it along. As for the spit up, you just never know! It may show up eventually. If it doesn't, I am sure that's good!

@carolyn: congratulations! Most babies skin peels a little as it adjusts to life outside the womb and the air versus your water.

If it gets really dry esp. around the ankles with red marks, you can put some lotion on it- buy something for sensitive skin that is labeled for use on newborns and is fragrance-free! The perfume in all these baby products can irritate a newborn's skin a lot. I used Aveeno on Ben's feet and he loved me to rub them. The dryness went away after about 2 weeks.

@Nessa: There is a lot of contradicting info on whether to use acne stuff/color your hair/whiten your teeth during pregnancy. I say, you should maybe wait until after the first trimester. Think everything you put in your mouth or on your skin might end up in your baby.

on the other hand- if it gets so bad that you might end up as a single mom with acne, call the manufacturer (sp) of the stuff you're using, they should know. sorry i'm not a big help on that...

Nessa I discussed this with my dermatologist prior to getting pregnant. She said once I found out I was pregnant I had to stop everything, oral and topical. My skin was actually better during my pregnancy. I just started back on my medications last week.

Congrats to you, too, Nessa! Pregnancy is so exciting (and occasionally irritating, but worth it in the end).

I think that most sources would say no to acne medication--but I'd contact your doctor or midwife to check what they think (usually there is a nurse information line you can call). Maybe there are some medications that are better than others to use. Have you gone in for your first check-up yet?

Carolyn,

I think spitting up usually appears a little later in life, but certainly some do it more than others :). and yes, I think a certain amount of peeling is normal.

Nessa, yes I agree, talk it over with your doc or midwife.

Eveline, how is Adam adjusting to big brother status?

Nessa, constipation sucks and can be painful, the one thing that is okay to take it Colace, its a stool softener, jewel osco and walgrens carry a generic, take one or two when needed, it will really help...make sure its stool softener and not laxative, laxatives are bad!!

carolyn, zaid didnt spit up once til he was like 3 months old, i thought i was blessed too, but trust me, it comes...for the dry skin, its normal, the baby lived in water for 10 months ...run a humidifier in your house and give him a good rubdown with cream or oil...it goes away eventually...
