YEs I have my parents and my sister that will acompany me to the hospital and hopefully we will have the K3 visa approved soon for my husband to come and meet out new little one.

He's a boy, we decided to name him Christopher Angel, Angel after his late grandfather. I am very excited and I cant wait to see/hold him in my hands. Thank you guys for all of your well wished and for the ladies that are more familiar with this I have a quick question.

Being that this is my 1st baby I am not familiar with how strong the contractions have to be before I decide to go to the hospital. Now I deff dont want to wait until I am in so much pain that I'll be screaming but I dont want to go early and they send me home, again. Another thing, today I had my doctor's appt and he says I am ready to go any day now. I am dilated 70%, he didnt mention how much that is, but do any of you know appx how open the cervix has to be so they keep me in the clinic? Please let me know. Any info is more that welcome.

I think with 70% he meant that you are 70% effaced. Dilation is measured in cm.

There are many factors that determine if they keep you at the hospital.

Rule of thumb is usually to go when you have contractions that come less than 5 minutes apart (with your first baby). They will hook you up to a monitor and check if you're having "real" contractions and whether you are dilated.

If your water breaks first and it looks clear- call your doctor and see what he says. If your water breaks and it looks greenish- go to the hospital immediately, they will def. admit you because that means that the baby had an intrauterine bowel movement (meconium) and that might be a sign of fetal distress.

I like the name you picked out! It looks like you might go in labor soon, being 70% effaced!

I was a little nervous about going to the hospital and being send back home for false alarm. My doctor instructed me to give him a call on his cell phone when my contractions are less than 5 min. I called him at 4am and he ordered me in. Luckily my water broke as I walked into the delivery room, so they kept me and I had my baby at 11am. :star:

I was 5cm dilated and 80% effaced and didn't go into labor myself. At the hospital they told me to stick to the 4-1-1 rule to decide wether to go in or not. 4-1-1 means contractions 4 minutes apart, lasting 1 minute for at least 1 hour. You won't be going to the hospital too late, believe me. The pain gets so bad earlier on that you will have plenty of time unless you are one of those fortunate mommas that have a 30 minute birth and are completely pain free before that. Good luck, all the best and I hope your little man will be here soon.

i think in any case you kind of just know when to go to the hospital...just like eveline said...i was 6cm dilated when i finally checked myself in, my water never broke, the pain wasnt bad, and my contractions were irregular, i just got fed up of waiting and decided to go...I still was in labor for 12 hours before he came out ...
